Punaura Dham to Shine Like Ayodhya – Direct Road, Rail & Air Links to Transform Goddess Sita’s Birthplace!

A Sacred Journey, Soon Within Everyone’s Reach
Imagine stepping onto the land where Goddess Sita was born — without the long, tiring travel. Soon, Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi will be just a comfortable road trip, a quick train ride, or a short drive from the nearest airport away.

This historic and deeply revered site is on the verge of a massive transformation. The government’s ambitious plan will connect it directly to Ayodhya, Patna, and other cities, while also giving it a temple that will rival the grandeur of Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

The Road That Will Bring Devotees Closer

The centrepiece of this connectivity plan is the Ram–Janaki Marg, a ₹13,186 crore mega project. This sacred highway will stretch from Ayodhya to Nepal, passing through Siwan, Mashrakh, Shivhar, and Sitamarhi.

A dedicated 4 km link road will connect Punaura Dham directly to this route. The plan doesn’t stop there. The Muzaffarpur–Sitamarhi–Sonvarsha road will be widened, and a four-lane Patna–Sitamarhi highway will ensure faster travel for visitors and locals alike.

Rail Expansion for Seamless Pilgrimage

Train travel to Punaura Dham is also set for a major upgrade. The Darbhanga–Sitamarhi–Narkatiaganj rail line is being doubled at a cost of ₹4,080 crore. This will significantly cut travel time.

Additionally, a new 28 km Sitamarhi–Shivhar rail line, worth ₹566 crore, will pass just 1.5 km from the temple. For pilgrims, this means stepping off the train and walking directly into the spiritual heart of Mithila.

Air Travel to Shorten the Journey

For those flying in, the improvements will be just as striking. Better highways will reduce travel time from Patna and Darbhanga airports, making it possible to reach Punaura Dham from Darbhanga in about an hour. This is set to attract devotees, tourists, and researchers from across India and beyond.

A Future to Match the Past’s Glory

In the next three years, Punaura Dham will not just be a place of worship — it will be a world-class spiritual and cultural destination. With grand infrastructure, direct access by all major modes of transport, and a temple echoing the magnificence of Ayodhya, the birthplace of Goddess Sita is ready to reclaim its rightful glory.
