Indian Open Athletics Meet Kicks Off Today in Patna – Bihar Hosts Sporting History in the Making

Patna, July 19, 2025 – Bihar is witnessing a historic moment in Indian sports.
The first-ever Indian Open Athletics Meet is currently underway at the Patliputra Sports Complex, transforming the capital into a hub of athletic energy and national pride.

For the first time, Bihar is hosting a national athletics championship of this scale — and it’s already capturing the attention of the country.

The championship, organized by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) in collaboration with the Bihar State Sports Authority, brings together over 400 top-tier athletes from across the nation. Stars of Indian Athletics Shine in Patna

Today’s meet features some of India’s most recognized athletes, including:

  • Animesh Kujur – national record holder in 100m & 200m

  • Dev Meena – pole vault record holder

  • Ankita Dhyani – Olympian and Asian medalist

  • Himanshu Jakhar – India’s first U-18 Asian gold in javelin throw

Also in the spotlight are:

  • Kishore Jena – Olympian and javelin thrower

  • Kiran Pahal – Olympian in the 400m

  • Sachin Yadav – Asian silver medalist (javelin)

  • Purnima Hembrom – two-time Asian bronze medalist in heptathlon
