Two Champions, One Dream: Bihar’s Rising Fencing Stars Shine Bright

In a landmark moment for Bihar, two young athletes from Motihari—Keshar Raj and Ravi Kumar Yadav—have been selected as Khelo India Athletes under the prestigious scheme of the Sports Authority of India. The recognition is not just a personal milestone, but a testament to Bihar’s growing presence in national sports.

The Big Announcement

Ravindran Shankaran, Director General and CEO of Bihar State Sports Authority, announced the selection. According to him, the Khelo India Talent Identification Committee has chosen eight exceptional fencing talents from across India—two of whom are proudly from Bihar.

Keshar Raj will represent in the Foil category, while Ravi Kumar Yadav will compete in the Épée event. Starting June 4, 2025, both athletes will begin receiving full-time residential training, health insurance, sports gear, and top-notch coaching under the Khelo India scheme.

Achievements That Paved the Way

These selections are far from random. Ravi Kumar Yadav recently clinched a bronze medal in the Épée event at the Khelo India Youth Games 2025 in Rajgir. He also won a silver at the 68th School Games National Fencing Championship in Jammu and Kashmir and a bronze at the U-17 National Fencing Championship in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. Impressively, he also represented India in the Cadet World Championship and Asian Championship.

Meanwhile, Keshar Raj has been equally outstanding. She won gold in the U-14 Foil event at the 68th School Games in Jammu and Kashmir, and a bronze at the National U-14 Fencing Championship in Cuttack, Odisha. Her crowning achievement this year was a gold at the Khelo India Asmita League.

From Motihari to the National Spotlight

Both athletes started their journey at the District Fencing Training Center located at Khel Bhawan, Motihari. They now train at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati, a place where dreams begin to look real.

Their discipline, dedication, and achievements showcase what Bihar’s youth can achieve with the right support and platform.
