Bihar is bringing its ancient roots to the modern map. With a ₹6.98 crore tourism project approved by the government, Sitakund in Munger — the sacred site where Goddess Sita is believed to have undergone her Agni Pariksha — is all set to become a heritage hotspot.

And this time, it’s not just about devotion. It’s about revival, recognition, and regional development.

Sitakund: The Sacred Fire and the Chilling Truth

Only 8 km from Munger headquarters lies a site with stunning natural contradictions — a hot spring believed to be the Agni Kund, and four cold water springs named after Ram, Lakshman, Bharat, and Shatrughna. Every year during the month of Magh, thousands of devotees from Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh visit to take a holy dip and pray.

Despite its powerful mythological relevance, Sitakund remained underdeveloped for decades. But not anymore. The tourism department’s plan includes:

• A grand entrance gate

• Modern toilet blocks

• Shops for local artisans

• Boundary walls and security

• Wide, clean parking areas

• Stairways around the kund

• Full site beautification

In fact, ₹3.49 crore has already been released, and the site will be transformed within the next 12 months.

A Boost for Faith, Economy & Local Jobs

Speaking on the project, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said,
“Our government is prioritizing the development of historical and religious sites. We want them to be centers of both devotion and economic growth.”

Locals have also expressed happiness. For years, they believed the site deserved national attention. Now, they feel hopeful. With tourism infrastructure, employment will rise, especially for young people and local businesses.

As the sacred site becomes accessible and structured, it will attract not only pilgrims but also tourists and history buffs from across the country — possibly the world.

From Forgotten Trail to Featured Destination

According to legend, Sita’s Agni Pariksha happened here. Today, the natural hot water continues to bubble — a miraculous reminder of ancient times. And now, the government’s plan will preserve this legacy while introducing modern facilities.

The cultural renaissance of Munger is a sign of Bihar’s changing narrative. As more heritage sites receive the attention they deserve, the state positions itself as not just a land of faith — but also of futuristic potential.
