Bihar’s Rising Fencing Star

Ravi Kumar Yadav, a talented fencer from East Champaran, has made Bihar proud by securing a bronze medal at the 19th Cadet (U-17) National Fencing Championship. The event, held in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, from January 8 to 11, 2025, saw fierce competition. Yet, Ravi stood out with his extraordinary skills and perseverance.

A Tournament to Remember

Competing in the Epee Individual category, Ravi showcased unmatched determination throughout the championship.

• First, he defeated Punjab’s Prabhunoor Singh Sidhu with a decisive 15-10 score in the Top 64.
• Then, in the Top 32, he overcame Telangana’s Sanjay Kuthadi 15-11.
• Advancing further, he triumphed over Haryana’s Aryan Yadav 15-8 in the Pre-Quarterfinals.
• The tension rose in the Quarterfinals, where Ravi outperformed Maharashtra’s Saiprasad Jangwad 15-11.
• Finally, in the Semifinals, Ravi narrowly lost to Haryana’s Prince Hooda with a close score of 14-15, earning the bronze medal.

Early Beginnings and Hard Work

Ravi started fencing in 2019 in East Champaran, driven by his passion for the sport. Thanks to his consistent performances, he secured a place at the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Guwahati, where he trains under the expert guidance of coach Lalit Kumar. Back home, he sharpens his skills at the District Fencing Training Centre in Motihari, with coach Vijay Kumar’s support.

Consistent Excellence

This bronze medal is not Ravi’s first national achievement. In November 2024, he claimed silver at the 68th National School Games in Jammu & Kashmir. Additionally, he has dominated state-level competitions, winning multiple gold medals and proving his mettle time and again.

Support System and Gratitude

Ravi credits his success to the unwavering support of his coaches, Vijay Kumar and Lalit Kumar, his family, and the Bihar Fencing Association. His father, Sajjan Kumar Yadav, a schoolteacher, has been a constant source of encouragement. The East Champaran community celebrates Ravi’s achievements with immense pride.
