Karbighaiya to Come Alive Again: Patna to Build India’s First Power Museum, A Historic Shift for Bihar’s Future
Patna is about to turn an old powerhouse into a new powerhouse of knowledge. The decommissioned Karbighaiya Thermal Power Station, once a symbol of Bihar’s industrial rise, is now set for a remarkable transformation. Soon, it will become India’s first-ever Power Museum, a landmark project that blends history, innovation, and cultural revival.
This development gained momentum after a high-level review meeting in Patna. The presentation took place before Anjani Kumar Singh, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Director General of Bihar Museum. The team shared a detailed vision that sparked fresh excitement about Bihar’s growing cultural infrastructure.
Officials confirmed that the museum will spread across three acres of the former Karbighaiya plant. The site carries decades of history, and now it will gain a new life. The project aims to preserve Bihar’s industrial legacy while offering a modern space for students, researchers, tourists, and innovators.
Moreover, the museum will highlight the evolution of power generation and distribution in India. Visitors will learn how energy shaped the country’s growth. They will also explore machinery, archival documents, and interactive exhibits that tell powerful stories.
The presentation included several senior officials. Manoj Kumar Singh, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of BSPHCL (@bsphcl), and Rahul Kumar, Managing Director of NBPDCL (@nbpdcl), reviewed the project roadmap. They discussed the vision, timeline, and process for selecting the implementing agency.
Additionally, the meeting brought together a strong team from the power sector and the Bihar Museum:
Ashok Kumar Sinha (Additional Director, Bihar Museum)
Manmohan Kumar (Chief Engineer–Civil, BSPHCL)
Ashish Kumar (Executive Engineer–Civil)
Committee members: Chandrashekhar Kumar, Vinay Kumar, Soumya, Nupur, and Keka Kumari
Each member contributed key insights to shape the next phase of the project. With this collaboration, the Power Museum aims to become a national example of creative redevelopment.
The project brings several long-term benefits. First, it will strengthen tourism in Patna. Second, it will create a new research-friendly space for students and scholars. Third, it will repurpose an old industrial zone into an engaging cultural hub.
Furthermore, it reflects a growing trend across Bihar: transforming heritage spaces into modern public assets. Karbighaiya’s revival will inspire similar projects across the state.
Officials will now move toward final approval of the agency selection process. After that, construction-related decisions will follow. Although the timeline is developing, the vision is clear. Patna wants to create something iconic—something that honours the past while inspiring the future.
