Bihar Receives ₹58,900 Crore for Development in Union Budget 2024

The recent announcement by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding the allocation of ₹58,900 crore to Bihar in the 2024 Union Budget marks a significant step towards the comprehensive development of the state. This funding encompasses a variety of crucial projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, promoting tourism, and supporting economic growth in the region.

Key Allocations in the Budget

  1. Road Projects: ₹26,000 Crore A significant portion of the budget—₹26,000 crore—will be dedicated to road infrastructure. This includes the development of the Patna-Purnea Expressway and Buxar-Bhagalpur Expressway, alongside vital spurs connecting Bodhgaya, Rajgir, Vaishali, and Darbhanga. Additionally, a major two-lane bridge over the Ganga at Buxar is set to be constructed, greatly improving connectivity and logistics in the region.

  2. Power Development: ₹21,400 Crore To enhance energy capacity, a new 2,400 MW power plant will be established in Pirpainti at an investment of ₹21,400 crore. This project is expected to meet the growing energy demands of Bihar and support industrial activities.

  3. Flood Management: ₹11,500 Crore Recognizing the challenges posed by seasonal flooding, the budget allocates ₹11,500 crore for flood management initiatives, ensuring better preparedness and resilience for affected communities.

Boosting Tourism and Cultural Heritage

The central government is also focusing on promoting Bihar as a tourist destination. Plans include the comprehensive development of the Vishnupad and Mahabodhi temple corridors, along with efforts to enhance the historical significance of Nalanda. By investing in these cultural landmarks, the government aims to attract more visitors, thus boosting the local economy.

Vision for Eastern India: Purvodaya

Under the ambitious “Purvodaya” initiative, the government plans to catalyze all-round development in the eastern region of India, which includes Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. This initiative aims to create a robust framework for human resource development, infrastructure enhancement, and economic opportunities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of this campaign, stating it would energize the region’s growth trajectory.

Industrial Development at Gaya

To further stimulate economic activity, an industrial node will be developed at Gaya along the Amritsar-Kolkata industrial corridor. This strategic move is expected to attract investments and create jobs, thus transforming the economic landscape of the eastern region. The 2024 Union Budget presents a transformative vision for Bihar, focusing on infrastructure development, energy generation, tourism promotion, and industrial growth. With these substantial investments, Bihar is poised to emerge as a key player in India’s economic landscape, contributing significantly to the nation’s progress. The government’s commitment to the development of eastern India under the Purvodaya initiative signals a bright future for the region and its people.

Stay tuned for further updates as Bihar embarks on this exciting journey towards sustainable development!
