Log Gawar Bolte The”—How a Young Farmer from Purnia Turned Mockery into a ₹10 Crore Agri-Business Empire

“Log Gawar Bolte The…”: A Revolution Sprouted in Bihar’s Soil

“They called me illiterate, backward, gawar… just because I chose farming.”
That’s what 24-year-old Prince Shukla, a BSc Agriculture graduate, heard when he left his comfortable tech job in Bengaluru and returned to Purnia, Bihar.

But instead of backing down, he dug deeper—into the land and into himself. And today, his agri-startup AGRATE is rewriting the future of farming in Bihar, empowering countless rural farmers and generating over ₹10 crore in revenue.

From ₹1 Lakh and a Dream to a Movement Called AGRATE

In 2021, Prince borrowed ₹1 lakh from his father and relatives. With that modest sum, he launched AGRATE, focusing on three core services:

  • Supplying high-quality seeds

  • Promoting organic fertilisers

  • Introducing modern irrigation tools

Initially, most farmers didn’t believe in what he was trying to do. Farming in Bihar had long been stuck in traditional, often ineffective practices. But Prince showed up—not just with supplies, but with solutions.

A Farmer Who Chose Action Over Approval

Prince didn’t just sell products. He stood in the fields with small-scale farmers, training them, guiding them, and demonstrating results firsthand. That hands-on support—more than any fertiliser—nurtured trust and transformation.

Still, the road wasn’t easy. Skepticism loomed. Financial crunches were frequent. Yet, he believed that farming didn’t need sympathy—it needed systems, science, and self-respect.

From Ridicule to Respect: AGRATE’s ₹10 Crore Impact

Today, AGRATE’s revenue crosses ₹2.5 crore annually, with projections moving toward ₹10 crore.

But numbers tell only part of the story. The real transformation lies in the lives of farmers:

  • Families that once saw farming as a burden now treat it as a business.

  • Men and women who once feared crop failure now speak confidently about yield quality and market pricing.

  • And those who laughed at Prince for “wasting his degree” now come to him for advice.

Why AGRATE Is More Than a Startup—It’s a Mindset Shift

Prince’s journey speaks to a larger truth—agriculture is not outdated, it’s under-innovated. And young minds can turn it into a profitable, respected, and high-tech sector.

Bihar has long been dismissed as backward. But stories like Prince’s are redefining it as bold, brave, and future-ready.
