“रेल विकास से बदलेगा दरभंगा का नज़ारा! 15 Bridges, 72 Underpasses, and 2 New Rail Lines Set to Transform Bihar’s Connectivity”

“Not just tracks, it’s Bihar’s track to transformation!”

Bihar is racing ahead on the railway map of India, and the spotlight is on Darbhanga. With a massive infrastructure upgrade announced during Union Railway Minister‘s recent visit, the region is set to witness a historic makeover. The blessing comes in the form of two brand-new railway lines, 14 upcoming stations, 15 major bridges, and 72 underpasses, reshaping the travel narrative in North Bihar.

What’s Coming? Two New Railway Lines Totalling 161 KM

The Central Government has greenlit two much-needed railway lines:

  • Laheriasarai to Saharsa – 95 KM

  • Laheriasarai to Muzaffarpur – 66 KM

Together, these lines span 161 kilometers, bridging critical districts and enhancing regional mobility.

Laheriasarai–Saharsa Line: Game-Changer for Kosi Region

This ₹2,376 crore project will cover 95 KM, out of which 70 KM lies within Darbhanga Parliamentary Constituency.
Key Infrastructure on This Line:

  • 15 large bridges over the Kosi River

  • 41 small bridges

  • 72 underpasses

  • 10 new railway stations

This massive connectivity push is set to energize rural Bihar, linking agricultural zones with urban demand centers.

Laheriasarai–Muzaffarpur Line: Easing Urban & Healthcare Access

The second proposed railway line of 66 KM will be developed at a cost of ₹1,213 crore.
Highlights:

  • 4 new stations, including one next to the upcoming AIIMS Darbhanga

  • 3 halt points for better last-mile connectivity

This means easier access for people from Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, and Katihar, especially for those needing treatment at AIIMS.

Overbridge for Faster Daily Travel

Apart from long-distance development, Darbhanga’s urban infrastructure gets a boost with a new ₹6.16 crore overbridge in Laheriasarai. This will significantly reduce travel time between Laheriasarai to Benipur and Kusheshwarsthan, especially for two-wheeler commuters.

Two New Train Services Announced

To make the region even more connected, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced:

  • A Darbhanga–Lucknow express

  • An extended Amrit Bharat train from Amritsar to Saharsa via Darbhanga

These additions ensure better inter-state mobility and more economic opportunities for locals.

From Demands to Deliveries

Local railway officials had placed the demand for these lines during a special meeting at the Samastipur Railway Division Office. Within a short span, the proposal received active approval—highlighting the government’s commitment to boosting connectivity in underserved regions.

Bihar’s Growth is on Track

This isn’t just railway development. It’s Bihar’s leap toward better infrastructure, healthcare access, regional balance, and economic revival. By bridging remote areas, Bihar’s rail blueprint is making sure no one is left behind.
