Big Relief for 16,100 Farmers in Bihar as Irrigation Support Reaches the Ground
Over 16,100 farmers in Bihar have received direct financial aid under a state-supported irrigation initiative, allowing them to install private tube wells and water their fields independently. This effort marks a major step in ensuring irrigation access for every farm, reducing dependence on seasonal rainfall and boosting agricultural productivity.
The initiative, under the Mukhyamantri Niji Nalkoop Yojana, is designed to help farmers take irrigation into their own hands and cultivate with confidence year-round.
16,100 farmers already received subsidies.
₹91.91 crore disbursed to support irrigation infrastructure.
23,397 farmers uploaded claims for boring completion.
116,985 hectares of farmland brought under irrigation.
Total target: 35,000 tube wells across Bihar.
Total goal: 1.75 lakh hectares of irrigated land.
The scheme provides grants based on category-wise support to ensure equitable access:
General category farmers receive a 50% subsidy, capped at ₹57,000.
Backward class farmers receive a 70% subsidy, capped at ₹79,800.
Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe farmers receive an 80% subsidy, capped at ₹91,200.
The aid covers tube wells ranging between 15–70 meters in depth, equipped with 2 to 5 HP pumps—suitable for typical farmland in Bihar.
The claim process is fully online and accessible to farmers across Bihar. Here’s how it works:
Visit the official portal: horticulture.bihar.gov.in
Upload the following documents:
Aadhaar card
Land ownership proof
Caste certificate (if applicable)
Farmer’s passport-size photo
Wait for application approval.
After boring is completed, upload proof of installation.
Subsidy is transferred post-verification by district officials.
The initiative has already improved irrigation access across vast rural regions. With the majority of claims verified and subsidies released, farmers are witnessing:
Better crop yields
Reduced irrigation costs
Increased independence from monsoons
More confidence in planning multiple harvests
This is more than a policy—it’s a tool for self-reliance and long-term growth.
Despite its success, many eligible farmers are yet to apply. To address this, the department is conducting extensive awareness campaigns in villages, blocks, and districts.
Farmers with approved applications are urged to complete boring installations and upload proof at mwrd.bihar.gov.in to claim their grants. Meanwhile, pending claims are under active verification.
Reliable irrigation remains one of Bihar’s biggest agricultural challenges.
This scheme bridges the gap quickly and efficiently at the grassroots level.
It empowers farmers, ensures water security, and strengthens rural livelihoods.
Instead of waiting for large infrastructure to be built, this initiative gives farmers the power to act now—directly and efficiently.
This isn’t just about subsidies—it’s about restoring hope, building trust, and enabling farmers to grow their future.
