Bihar’s Agri Boom Takes Centre Stage at Global Buyer-Seller Meet 2025

“What if Bihar became the world’s go-to destination for quality rice, spices, makhana, and more?”
That question wasn’t just rhetoric—it took real shape at the International Buyer-Seller Meet (IBSM) held in Patna on May 19–20, 2025.

For two dynamic days, Bihar wasn’t just on the map—it was the map. Buyers from over 20 countries, including six global retail giants, joined hands with local farmers, processors, and innovators to tap into Bihar’s agri-food goldmine.

A Groundbreaking Start: Leaders, Vision, and Promise

The event opened with a powerful message of collaboration and optimism.
Union Minister Shri Chirag Paswan inaugurated the IBSM, accompanied by Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha (Deputy CM, Bihar) and Shri Nitish Mishra (Industries Minister, Bihar).
Together, they unveiled a vision: Bihar as the Agri-Hub of East India, driving rural prosperity and global food trade.

“This International Buyer-Seller Meet is not just a trade event. It is a turning point for rural prosperity,”
Shri Chirag Paswan, Union Minister of Food Processing Industries

The minister highlighted the record sanction of 10,270 loans worth ₹624.42 crore under the PMFME Scheme in 2024–25, putting Bihar at the top nationwide. He reiterated the Government’s commitment to empowering micro food entrepreneurs across the state.

Buyers from 20+ Countries Explore Bihar’s Sourcing Potential

The buzz was real. Over 70 international buyers, including global names like:

  • LuLu Group (UAE)

  • SARTAJ (Japan)

  • Datar & Sons (UAE)

  • Global Foods Trading (Germany)

…expressed serious interest in sourcing rice, pulses, spices, fruits, vegetables, and makhana from Bihar.

Companies such as Royal Golden Trading (UAE) and UVR Natural Foods (India) announced immediate procurement plans—proof that Bihar’s food ecosystem is no longer emerging; it’s already here.

Strong B2B Connects: Over 400 Meetings, Real Deals

What made IBSM 2025 different was its action-oriented approach.
More than 400 curated B2B meetings helped connect Bihar’s MSMEs, FPOs, and processors with global buyers. These aren’t just introductions—they are game-changing links for long-term trade partnerships.

“Bihar’s fertile land and entrepreneurial spirit will position India as a Global Food Basket,”
— Shri Chirag Paswan

Bihar’s Infrastructure & Support for Investors

Industries Minister Shri Nitish Mishra emphasized Bihar’s investor-ready ecosystem. He spotlighted:

  • The Government of India-approved Mega Food Park in Muzaffarpur

  • Single Window Clearance System ensuring land allotment within 7 days

  • Proactive support for industrial growth and exports

Deputy CM Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha added that food processing is the fastest path to doubling farmers’ income—an idea backed by investment in processing units and infrastructure.

New Age Vision: Tracenet 2.0 & NIFTEM Bihar

APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev announced the launch of Tracenet 2.0, a new digital initiative to ensure traceability for GI-tagged and organic products—boosting global credibility.

Another exciting development: a newly announced NIFTEM (National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management) in Bihar. It promises to be a centre of excellence, reviving Bihar’s legacy of innovation, akin to the glory days of Nalanda.

Strategic Reports & New Sourcing Commitments

A dedicated report titled “Strategies to Boost India’s Makhana Exports” was unveiled, underlining Bihar’s leadership in this GI-tagged superfood. The result?
12 companies announced sourcing agreements, unlocking a new global market for Bihar’s traditional produce.

Beyond Numbers: A New Image for Bihar

While the IBSM was about food and trade, it also reshaped perceptions.
From the land of Aryabhatta and Lord Buddha, Bihar is transforming into the land of agri-tech, exports, and rural entrepreneurship.

IBSM 2025 wasn’t just a meet—it was a movement.
