Imagine a student from a remote school dribbling a football on a dusty field, now dreaming of state-level glory. That dream gets a boost as the Bihar government launches Mashaal, a school-level sports talent hunt designed to turn young athletes into future champions.
With ₹40 crore in funding and a target to engage 58 lakh students, this initiative is breaking records and building legacies.
Unlike piecemeal efforts of the past, Mashaal brings together three departments:
Education
Youth Affairs and Sports
Bihar State Sports Authority
Their unified vision? To identify, support, and empower hidden talent from government schools.
This isn’t a one-stage event. It’s a structured, 5-tier journey that scouts students from the grassroots:
School → Cluster → Block → District → State
Participants are grouped into two age categories:
Under-14
Under-16
(both for boys and girls)
The five sporting disciplines include:
Athletics (dash, long jump, discus throw)
Kabaddi
Badminton
Football
Volleyball
This format ensures no region is left out, giving rural Bihar an equal shot at sporting glory.
Recognition plays a key role in motivation. That’s why the government has laid out cash rewards at every level:
Block Level
1st place: ₹1,000
2nd place: ₹600
3rd place: ₹400
District Level
1st place: ₹2,500
2nd place: ₹1,500
3rd place: ₹1,000
State Level
1st place: ₹5,000
2nd place: ₹3,000
3rd place: ₹2,000
Every participant will receive T-shirts and medals. These tokens of recognition ensure even early-stage athletes feel seen and valued.
Mashaal isn’t just about games—it’s about growth. Winners and potential stars will receive:
Advanced coaching by certified experts
Access to upgraded sports infrastructure
Nutritious meals to support training
Transportation and gear support
Scholarships under the ‘Khelo’ scheme for holistic development
Such support ensures students from underprivileged backgrounds don’t lose out on opportunities.
With millions participating and lakhs of dreams riding on it, Mashaal isn’t just a campaign—it’s Bihar’s sports revolution.
More than a contest, it’s a culture shift. Schools will now nurture talent alongside academics. Coaches will discover hidden gems. And villages will cheer for their local champions.
Some of these kids will go on to represent the state. Some, the nation. But every single one of them will remember where it all began—with Mashaal.
