Bihar’s Railway Revolution: New Tracks, New Trains, and World-Class Stations
Indian Railways is transforming Bihar’s connectivity with a series of major upgrades. Central Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that Bettiah Railway Station will take the shape of a royal Raj Darbar, while Raxaul Station will resemble the Pashupatinath Temple. As part of the Amrit Bharat Yojana, authorities will modernize 98 railway stations across Bihar.
Passengers will soon enjoy faster travel with the Vande Bharat Express, which will operate from Gorakhpur to Patna, passing through Bagaha, Narkatiaganj, Bettiah, and Sugauli. Authorities plan to launch this high-speed train within three to four months, providing travelers with better speed, safety, and comfort.
The government has allocated ₹4,553 crore to double-track major railway lines, including Narkatiaganj, Raxaul, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, and Muzaffarpur. This expansion will introduce four new types of trains, strengthening connectivity across the state.
To meet growing railway demands, officials have budgeted for 100 Amrit Bharat, 50 Namo Bharat, and 200 Vande Bharat trains nationwide. Bihar will also gain 1,000 new railway overbridges (ROBs), adding to the 1,022 built last year.
Ram Nagar MLA Bhagirathi Devi urged railway authorities to extend the Narkatiaganj-Gaunaha railway line up to Bhikna Thori. Responding immediately, the Railway Minister instructed officials to initiate the project, unlocking fresh trade and travel opportunities for the region.
At the Bettiah Railway Over Bridge (ROB) inauguration, valued at ₹103.36 crore, Ashwini Vaishnaw made a remarkable gesture. Instead of pressing the launch button himself, he invited women spectators and women MLAs to do the honors. Highlighting Nari Shakti, he emphasized that women’s empowerment drives national progress.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has significantly increased railway funding for Bihar. Previous governments provided ₹1,132 crore, whereas the current administration has raised it to ₹10,066 crore. This investment is delivering new railway lines, world-class stations, and modern trains, ensuring Bihar plays a leading role in India’s railway transformation.
