“Uninterrupted electricity is not a luxury, it is a necessity.” With these words, Bihar’s Energy Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh set the tone at a high-level review meeting in Patna. The meeting focused on the Gaya-Punpun transmission projects, critical to ensuring steady power supply during peak demand and major events.
Singh directed officials to prepare an annual preventive maintenance roster for all equipment and grid substations. He emphasised that strict compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) will not only strengthen infrastructure but also improve service reliability for lakhs of households.
The directions carry extra urgency this year. The famous Pitru Paksha Mela in Gaya begins on September 6, attracting thousands of visitors. Singh instructed field engineers and officers to maintain transmission structures and carefully assess grid load flow. This step will guarantee continuous electricity in Gaya and Punpun during the spiritual gathering.
At the meeting, senior officers, Rahul Kumar (MD of the Transmission Company), and field engineers discussed ground realities. Singh reminded them that timely action today prevents power failures tomorrow.
Officials stressed that distribution and transmission companies must not work in silos. They were directed to conduct joint inspections of power substations and transmission lines. Teams must evaluate conditions, identify weaknesses, and act quickly.
Additionally, Singh highlighted the need for adequate staffing at all grids and substations. Proper manpower ensures fast responses to technical issues and avoids prolonged outages.
Bihar is growing, and so is its energy demand. Singh urged Transmission Company officers to coordinate with the Industry Department and BIADA. By tracking upcoming industrial clusters, planners can design grids that support factories, jobs, and urban expansion.
This forward-looking strategy shows how energy planning is tied to Bihar’s broader development. Reliable electricity doesn’t just light homes—it fuels industries, supports education, and powers digital progress.
