Rajgir Turns Rugby Arena: Asia’s Top Under-20 Titans Storm Bihar for Sevens Showdown!

For the first time ever, Rajgir, the ancient city steeped in legends, is roaring back to life—not with history, but with rugby boots, flying tackles, and national pride.

From August 9 to 10, 2025, Rajgir is hosting the Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens Championship, welcoming 192 young athletes from nine nations. With 40 electrifying matches lined up, the action will be fast, fierce, and unforgettable.

Nine Nations, One Dream: Youth Power on Full Display

This isn’t just a tournament—it’s a continental clash of potential, passion, and pride.
Top teams from China, Hong Kong, UAE, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, and more are landing in Bihar to prove their mettle.

Each team has brought its best:

• 192 players

• 32 expert coaches

• 50 technical officials
  All coming together to showcase Asia’s next generation of rugby legends.

India, as host nation, is fielding both men’s and women’s squads. But what makes this year special? Six homegrown heroes from Bihar are playing for India—two boys and four girls—putting their state on the global rugby map. This isn’t just sport. It’s a moment of transformation for Bihar.

From Coaching Camps to Championship Grounds

The Indian squads haven’t just shown up—they’ve trained relentlessly.
Under the guidance of world-class coaches, these teams are set to challenge Asia’s finest.

• Men’s Team Coach: Francisco Hernandez (Spain)

• Women’s Team Coach: Kiano Fourie (South Africa)

Both squads went through intensive training in Kolkata, refining strategies, building fitness, and learning to thrive under pressure. And according to Rugby India President Rahul Bose, India is ready. The prep, the hunger, and the heart—it’s all there.

In his words, “These teams are not just prepared. They’re battle-ready.”

Bihar Welcomes the World—with Heart

Foreign teams began arriving early in Patna, greeted with warmth, drums, and a touch of traditional Bihari hospitality. The state ensured tight security and top-tier accommodation in Rajgir, transforming the Rajgir International Sports Complex into a buzzing arena of global youth power.

At the official press conference, Bihar’s Sports Minister Surendra Mehta and Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar confirmed their support. It’s more than a game—it’s a national mission to turn Bihar into India’s next sporting hub.
