Bihar Powers Up: NTPC Barh Adds 370 MW, Strengthening the State’s Energy Backbone

The NTPC Barh Super Thermal Power Plant has successfully commissioned its fifth unit, adding 370 MW of electricity to the state’s power grid. NTPC Barh’s New Unit Goes Live

Located in Patna district, the Barh power plant has now completed the final commissioning of Stage-1, Unit-3, with a capacity of 660 MW. After a successful trial completed on June 5, the unit is scheduled to start commercial operations from July 1. Out of this, Bihar will directly receive 370 MW of electricity.

This newly operational unit builds on the earlier four units of the plant, each also rated at 660 MW, which are already supplying power to the state.

A Total Capacity of 3300 MW – What It Means for Bihar

With the fifth unit coming online, the total generation capacity of NTPC Barh now reaches 3300 MW. Here’s how the allocation breaks down:

• Stage-1 (3 units × 660 MW): Bihar gets a 56.08% share, which amounts to 1110 MW.

• Stage-2 (2 units × 660 MW): The state receives a higher 86.04% share, resulting in 1136 MW.

In total, Bihar now secures 2246 MW of power from the Barh plant. This level of allocation marks a significant improvement in the state’s energy availability.

This increase in power supply is more than just numbers. It ensures:

• Uninterrupted electricity during high-demand periods.

• Improved quality of life for residents with fewer power cuts.
