The announcement came via Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the executing authority overseeing Patna’s urban transport revolution. This underground section—measuring 16.86 km—will be one of the most complex and transformative public infrastructure projects in Bihar’s capital.

In a high-stakes financial bid opened in October 2024, five major infrastructure firms competed for the project. Here’s how the numbers panned out:

Deadline: 42 months
Funding Partner: Japan International Cooperation Agency (#JICA)

The package will include:

• Construction of twin tunnels using advanced Shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machines)

• A cut-and-cover tunnel section

• Underground Ramp at Mithapur

• Three underground metro stations:

  • Vikas Bhawan

  • Vidyut Bhawan

  • Patna Junction Station

The package also involves architectural finishing, sanitation infrastructure, drainage systems, and water supply systems for this entire stretch.
