“Bihar Heroes on Track: Siwan’s Railway Workers Win Safety Star Award for Their Quick Action and Courage”

A Spark That Could Have Been a Disaster – Saved by Bihar’s Brave Railway Workers

In a state often defined by its resilience, Bihar’s Siwan district once again proved that dedication and alertness can prevent disaster. On July 9, when fire broke out near the railway tracks close to Panchrukhi station, Gatekeeper Dilawar Hussain noticed the flames and acted immediately. Without hesitation, he informed the railway control room and ensured that the track was secured before any train passed. His swift decision saved lives, property, and ensured the safety of hundreds of passengers.

This act of presence of mind didn’t go unnoticed. The North Eastern Railway (NER) recognized him, along with two other Siwan-based railway workers, for their exceptional vigilance and awarded them the “Safety Star of the Month.”

Honouring Bihar’s Safety Stars

On November 11, at the North Eastern Railway Headquarters in Gorakhpur, General Manager Uday Borwankar felicitated the awardees in a special ceremony. He emphasized that safety remains the top priority of Indian Railways, and employees who perform their duties with sincerity and promptness serve as true inspirations for others.

Among those honoured were:

  • Dilawar Hussain (Gateman, 83-C Siwan): Detected and reported the fire near Panchrukhi station on time.

  • Om Prakash Kumar (Gateman, 4-C): Found a crack in the rail weld between Amalori Sarsar and Hathua on June 29 and repaired it immediately using a jogul plate.

  • Nehal Ahmad: Alerted authorities about a rail fracture at Siwan Junction on August 25, preventing a major accident.

A Culture of Safety and Responsibility

Every day, thousands of trains move through Bihar’s railway network — connecting cities, villages, and livelihoods. Behind this smooth operation stand countless unsung heroes who ensure safety before speed. Their commitment transforms ordinary duties into acts of heroism.

General Manager Borwankar highlighted that “alert and responsible employees form the backbone of railway safety”, ensuring that millions reach their destinations safely.

More Than Just Awards — It’s About Awareness

These recognitions serve as a reminder that every alert moment counts. When employees take ownership and act promptly, they protect lives, infrastructure, and the reputation of the Railways. Bihar’s Siwan team has once again demonstrated that courage and responsibility go hand in hand.
