Imagine a university where students don’t just study—they learn, earn, and grow. Bihar is now turning this imagination into reality. The state government has announced plans to build its own skill university inspired by the Shri Vishwakarma Skill University (SVSU) in Haryana.
Recently, a three-member delegation led by Deepak Anand, Secretary of Bihar’s Labour Resources Department, visited SVSU’s Dudhola campus. The team explored the university’s dual education system that perfectly blends classroom learning with on-the-job experience.
This initiative marks a major step toward a more practical, job-ready education model for Bihar’s youth.
Unlike traditional universities, SVSU focuses 60% on practical training and 40% on theory. Students gain exposure to real industry environments while continuing their studies. As a result, they become more confident, skilled, and employable.
Furthermore, SVSU runs an Earn-While-You-Learn model. Students engage in paid industry training while pursuing academics, creating a perfect balance between learning and financial independence.
The Bihar delegation witnessed world-class Centres of Excellence established by Daikin India and Usha Sewing Machines at SVSU. They also observed innovative student projects in robotics, drones, automation, and electric vehicles.
Such partnerships ensure students acquire skills that are directly relevant to today’s industries. Consequently, the transition from college to career becomes smoother and faster.
SVSU’s mission is not just to provide certificates—it aims to build career-ready and entrepreneurial youth. Each course aligns with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), ensuring national-level credibility and recognition.
Equally important, the university is transforming how people view vocational education in India. It is proving that skill-based learning can be as prestigious as traditional higher education.
Firstly, Bihar has a young population full of ambition but limited by traditional education paths. The new skill university will give them a direct gateway to employability and innovation.
Secondly, industry-integrated education will help reduce the mismatch between academic learning and job requirements. Students will no longer struggle to find work after graduation—they will already be part of it.
Moreover, this model supports entrepreneurship. Skilled youth will not only find jobs but also create them, fueling Bihar’s local economy.
Lastly, it reflects a clear intent by the government to prioritize outcome-oriented education. Bihar could soon become a national leader in skill-based learning.
According to SVSU’s academic model, the proposed Bihar university will adopt:
40% theoretical learning and 60% practical training in real industries.
Dedicated Centres of Excellence in futuristic domains like robotics, drones, and EV technology.
Scholarships for deserving students to ensure inclusivity.
Active collaboration with industry leaders for internships and placements.
A focus on transforming education from degree-driven to skill-driven.
This model has already proven successful in Haryana. Now, it could reshape Bihar’s educational landscape too.
They will gain hands-on experience, industry mentorship, and early job exposure. Instead of waiting to “learn later,” they’ll start applying knowledge immediately.
This initiative ensures their children can pursue education that guarantees employability and growth. It brings stability, confidence, and a secure future.
Companies will have access to a skilled, job-ready workforce. That means reduced training costs and faster integration of new employees.
By nurturing talent locally, Bihar can minimize migration, attract investments, and strengthen its industries. Ultimately, it will empower communities and boost economic growth.
For Bihar’s vision to succeed, several steps are crucial.
First, the government must establish strong legislation and a transparent governance structure for the new university.
Next, industries must actively engage to provide training and job opportunities.
Moreover, high-quality infrastructure and well-trained faculty are essential.
Finally, equal access must be ensured so that even rural youth benefit from this opportunity.
If executed effectively, this initiative could redefine how India views education and employment—making Bihar a pioneer in practical learning.
