Bihar CM Announces ₹7.43 Crore Awards for 800+ Athletes – A Historic Push for Sporting Excellence!

Bihar Gears Up to Celebrate Sporting Champions

Bihar is preparing for one of its biggest sporting recognitions. On September 30, 2025, the state government announced that it will distribute ₹7.43 crore in cash prizes and certificates at its annual sports awards ceremony in Patna.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will preside over the event. Instead of just rewarding winners, this initiative also aims to encourage the younger generation to embrace sports as a serious career path. Moreover, it marks a new chapter in the state’s sports policy.

Who Will Be Honored

The grand ceremony will honor:

  • 630 athletes

  • 152 para-athletes

  • 24 coaches

  • 5 sports associations

  • 1 official

These achievers proved their talent in events such as the National School Games, National Championships, and the Khelo India Youth Games. In addition, para-athletes who brought medals to Bihar will receive well-deserved recognition.

Transparent and Fair Selection

To ensure fairness, the Bihar State Sports Authority adopted an online registration system. Additionally, a dedicated helpline helped applicants resolve queries and complaints.

A scrutiny committee then carefully reviewed documents and achievements. When discrepancies appeared, those applications were rejected. Finally, the list of awardees was made public with a window for objections, creating a transparent and credible process.

Spotlight on a Record-Breaking Para-Athlete

Among the stars, Shailesh Kumar from Jamui shines the brightest. He won gold at the World Para Athletics Championships, setting both a championship record and an Asian record in the T42/64 high jump category.

In recognition of his historic achievement, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced a ₹75 lakh reward and citation under the State Sports Award Scheme. Consequently, his story is expected to inspire countless athletes across Bihar. Furthermore, it signals that para-athletes will receive the same respect as mainstream sports icons.

Why This Matters for Bihar

By announcing these awards, the Bihar government demonstrates its long-term commitment to sports development and youth empowerment. The recognition not only provides financial assistance but also strengthens the overall sporting ecosystem.

Furthermore, it assures coaches and associations that their role will not be overlooked. Therefore, this initiative motivates them to guide future athletes with greater dedication. In fact, the entire sports fraternity views it as a milestone moment for Bihar.
