Bihar is making headlines with one of its biggest energy investments ever. A ₹30,000 crore deal between Adani Power Limited and Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL) will set up a 2400 MW thermal power project in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur. This move promises brighter homes, stronger industries, and thousands of jobs for the state.
In February 2025, the state cabinet named BSPHCL as the nodal agency. Just seven months later, on September 12, the Power Supply Agreement (PSA) was signed at Patna’s Vidyut Bhawan.
Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav described it as a landmark moment in Bihar’s energy journey. He stressed how improved power supply has already transformed rural areas and created fresh job opportunities. Now, this project will accelerate that momentum.
The project comes with an estimated cost of ₹27,000 crore, which may rise to ₹30,000 crore as work progresses.
Energy Secretary and BSPHCL CMD Manoj Kumar Singh confirmed the target: the first unit should start by Diwali 2028. He also assured that the company will work to finish ahead of schedule. This shows both ambition and urgency.
The project is more than a power plant—it is an engine of growth. It will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs in Bhagalpur and surrounding areas. As a result, local communities will benefit from new income streams and skill development.
During the signing, officials from both BSPHCL and Adani Power—including Abhishek Tyagi—formalized the deal in the presence of senior engineers and state representatives. Their teamwork reflects long-term confidence in Bihar’s development.
