Imagine driving through Hajipur without the endless jams at Ramashish Chowk or Paswan Chowk. That dream is finally set to turn real. Hajipur, the Gateway of North Bihar, will soon host the region’s first double-decker flyover, transforming the daily commute to Patna.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will oversee this landmark project at an estimated cost of ₹500 crore. Stretching five kilometres with 12 lanes, the flyover will connect Ramashish Chowk to Paswan Chowk, covering the busiest junctions of Chhapra-Hajipur and Muzaffarpur-Hajipur highways.
According to the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the design is as ambitious as it is practical. Vehicles heading into Hajipur will move on the lower deck, while those driving towards Muzaffarpur, Chhapra, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, or beyond will use the upper deck.
Vaishali District Magistrate Varsha Singh explained that the plan will separate city-bound and through traffic, making journeys quicker and stress-free. She added, “This project will give wings to Hajipur’s development, bringing the city closer to the infrastructure standards of larger urban centres.”
The project is more than just a flyover. It will feature 150 strong pillars and link to the Chapra overbridge as well as the Muzaffarpur-Hajipur railway overbridge on NH-22. Authorities also plan to revamp the BSNL Golambar area with beautification and better traffic flow systems.
Currently, traffic from districts like Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Madhubani, Bettiah, Shivhar, Siwan, and Chhapra converges at Hajipur to cross Gandhi Setu. This creates long queues and heavy fuel wastage. The new double-decker structure promises to save both time and energy for thousands of daily commuters.
Once completed, the Hajipur double-decker flyover will not only decongest roads but also accelerate trade, mobility, and urban development in Vaishali and Patna districts. It will stand as a symbol of Bihar’s growing infrastructure ambition, showcasing how modern projects can reshape lives and economies.
