“We Were Choking in Patna – So I Planted a Startup Instead”

In 2016, Patna was listed among the top three most polluted cities in the world. While many of us adjusted to the grim air or planned our exit from the city, Rahul Kumar chose to stay and fix what he could.

A management graduate with a clean slate and a strong purpose, Rahul returned home not to look for a job—but to solve a crisis. That decision led to the birth of Treeoz EcoVenture Pvt. Ltd., a startup rooted in a simple but bold idea: build a greener Patna from the ground up.

How Rahul Kumar Started Treeoz EcoVenture Pvt. Ltd. to Clean the Air, One Garden at a Time

In the early days, Treeoz EcoVenture began with services like landscaping, soil-less vertical gardening, and terrace gardening. Rahul’s mission was clear—make urban spaces greener and more breathable.

However, as the business grew, he identified a bigger issue: the gardening industry was unorganized and inconsistent. Customers found it difficult to access quality services, trust vendors, or get transparent pricing. This gap led Rahul to redesign his business model.

Treeoz evolved from a service provider into a tech-driven platform offering a full suite of gardening solutions. Whether it’s designing a kitchen garden or setting up an indoor landscape, clients can now browse services online, get expert consulting, and experience hassle-free execution—all in one place.

According to Rahul, this isn’t just about adding greenery—it’s about bringing structure, trust, and convenience to a sector that desperately lacked it.

What Makes Treeoz EcoVenture Pvt. Ltd. Stand Out, According to Founder Rahul Kumar

Rahul Kumar’s Treeoz EcoVenture stands apart in a space where very few have attempted to bring in technology and transparency.

First, the platform offers a wide range of services including vertical gardens, balcony setups, interior landscaping, and kitchen gardens—all curated to fit modern urban spaces.

Second, transparent pricing ensures that customers know exactly what they’re paying for. There are no hidden costs or surprise charges.

Third, Treeoz employs qualified horticulturists and garden designers, not just informal laborers. Clients receive expert guidance tailored to their needs.

Additionally, after-sales service is baked into the model. The team follows up post-project, ensuring plant care, replacements, or any adjustments are handled smoothly.

By combining professional expertise with digital convenience, Treeoz is redefining how urban India thinks about green spaces.

Rahul Kumar Reflects on the Struggles of Building Treeoz EcoVenture from Scratch

Like many first-generation entrepreneurs in Bihar, Rahul faced his share of resistance. Convincing skilled professionals to work in an informal, unglamorous sector like gardening was tough.

Worse still, gaining the trust of financial institutions was an uphill climb. Banks were reluctant to fund a model that didn’t fit the traditional tech or retail mold.

Despite the roadblocks, Rahul didn’t give up. Instead, he bootstrapped the venture and focused on perfecting the service experience. Slowly but surely, Treeoz earned its credibility—first through word of mouth, and later through repeat customers and business partnerships.

Looking back, Rahul believes these early struggles shaped the company’s identity: resilient, adaptive, and deeply customer-focused.

The 5-Year Vision for Treeoz EcoVenture Pvt. Ltd., as Envisioned by Rahul Kumar

Today, Rahul Kumar is preparing Treeoz for its next big leap. The startup is in the process of raising external funding to expand operations and further develop its tech capabilities.

In the next five years, Rahul envisions Treeoz as a national brand, with a presence in multiple Indian cities. More importantly, he wants to see the gardening industry recognized as organized, professional, and scalable.

His larger vision rests on three goals:

  • Better air quality through more green coverage

  • Fresher, safer food through home-based gardens

  • Healthier urban living, both physically and mentally

In Rahul’s words, “We’re not selling plants. We’re offering a healthier way to live.”

Rahul Kumar’s Message to Young Entrepreneurs: “Don’t Give Up on Yourself”

When asked what advice he’d give to someone just starting out, Rahul quotes a line from the movie Sultan:

“Tumhe tab tak koi nahi hara sakta, jab tak tum khud se na haar jao.”

His message is simple but powerful. Building something of your own is hard, especially when the odds are stacked against you. But the biggest battles are often internal.

Entrepreneurship, he says, is a long-distance run. You have to pace yourself, learn from every fall, and keep moving forward—even when no one else believes in your journey.
