Bihar invests ₹10.26 crore to transform 38 districts into sports powerhouses
Khiladi banenge Bihar ke brand ambassadors — Bihar is rewriting its sporting story by building modern gyms and indoor sports facilities across 38 districts. This ₹10.26 crore initiative is not just about construction, but about shaping the future of youth talent and giving it the right stage.
25 buildings are ready while 13 near completion
As part of the Mukhyamantri Khel Vikas Yojana, Bihar is constructing sports buildings-cum-gyms in all its districts. Already, 25 districts have fully functional facilities. The remaining 13 are quickly nearing completion.
This move brings a major shift in Bihar’s approach toward sports development. While earlier training opportunities were limited to cities, now even athletes in districts like Munger, Supaul, Buxar, Kaimur, and Begusarai will train at top-class centers near home.
A complete sports ecosystem under one roof
Each building is thoughtfully designed to meet the diverse needs of players. These are not just training spaces—they are multi-sport arenas offering high-quality infrastructure.
The key features include:
-
A modern gymnasium equipped with premium fitness machines
-
A dedicated office for the District Sports Officer
-
A 50-seater air-conditioned meeting room
-
Separate changing rooms for boys and girls
-
A multi-purpose hall for various indoor games and events
Importantly, this multi-purpose hall supports taekwondo, table tennis, fencing, wushu, kabaddi, and weightlifting. With all essential training and competition facilities available in one place, players can now train consistently without logistical challenges.
Government allocates ₹10.26 crore to boost safety and utilities
To enhance the usability and safety of these buildings, the government has approved an additional ₹10.26 crore. This funding ensures players and staff have access to necessary modern utilities.
Here’s how the funds are being used:
-
RO water purifiers for clean drinking water
-
Power backup generators for uninterrupted training
-
CCTV surveillance systems for enhanced security
-
Signage and boards for navigation and information
Such additions will improve daily functioning, ensure a secure environment, and support long-term maintenance of these centers.
More than buildings this is a shift in mindset
According to the Bihar Sports Department, the main aim behind this statewide development is to nurture hidden talent and help them shine at the national level. Not long ago, athletes from rural Bihar lacked access to even basic training spaces. Today, they stand at the threshold of opportunity.
Moreover, this initiative is not a one-time event. Rather, it represents a long-term cultural shift where sports is treated as an essential part of education and youth empowerment.
These buildings will soon become the heartbeat of district-level sports. Local tournaments, training camps, and youth competitions can now be hosted throughout the year.
