From Bhagalpur to Bihar’s First Shoe Spa: Shazia’s Grit Turned Leather into Legacy

60 Days – 60 Startups from Bihar | Story #20

“Main chappal saaf karti hoon…” – she once whispered to herself.
Not in shame. But in sheer defiance of a world that judged jobs by the dirt on one’s hands, not the dignity in one’s purpose.

Born in the Silk City, But She Chose Leather

In 2014, while most of India was still warming up to the idea of “startups,” 35-year-old Shazia Qaiser from Bhagalpur, Bihar, stepped into a lane no one dared – quite literally.
She launched Revival Shoe Laundry, a first-of-its-kind footwear and leather care startup in Bihar. At a time when few saw potential in cleaning shoes, Shazia saw power.

Armed not with an MBA, but a degree in physiotherapy and experience working with WHO and UNICEF, she pivoted from patient care to product revival. But what truly makes her journey unforgettable is that she didn’t just clean shoes – she rewrote mindsets.

2014: Starting Up When the World Didn’t Understand

Before Revival, no one in Bihar offered complete shoe cleaning, repair, and leather restoration services. So, for nearly three years, Shazia dedicated herself to research – traveling, talking, and studying the niche industry.
Her initial investment? Just ₹1 lakh, all from savings. Her team? Just her.
She even disguised herself and personally delivered flyers at 3 a.m. during freezing December nights, ensuring they reached newspapers before dawn. That’s not hustle; that’s heart.

Despite back-to-back losses in the first two years, she refused to quit. “People mocked me. Many didn’t even believe there’s any business in shoes. But I believed in Bihar’s untapped needs,” she shares.

A Startup That Heals Shoes and Empowers Women

Revival isn’t just a service – it’s a social shift. Shazia noticed that working with shoes was seen as ‘low status’, especially among the youth. “Of every 50 job applicants, barely three were interested,” she recalls.

Instead of waiting for skilled labor, she began training women from underprivileged backgrounds, especially those with little or no education.
“I wanted Revival to stand for dignity – for both shoes and people,” she says.

Today, her two Revival outlets in Patna are staffed with trained women, each learning the art of leather, polish, and perseverance.

Incubation, Not Inheritance: The Real Push Came Later

In the early days, even family support had limits. But hope came when Shazia got selected into a startup incubator in Patna.
This ecosystem gave her more than capital – it offered networks, mentorship, and clarity.

From understanding hiring best practices to navigating scale, Revival slowly grew from a backlane venture to a respected shoe and leather rejuvenation brand in Bihar.
And the numbers speak:

  • 15,000+ shoes revived

  • 5000+ happy clients

  • 11+ years of service excellence

  • Free pickup and delivery across Patna

Revival Services in 2025: When Footwear Found Its Soul

Today, Revival Services Pvt. Ltd. offers a wide range of leather care solutions:

  • Shoe cleaning, restoration, and polish

  • Color dyeing for canvas, leather, and PT shoes

  • Sole pasting, sheet replacement, and heel corrections

  • Inner leather change, full/minor pasting

  • Net replacement, lace and insole repair

  • School shoe cleaning, handbag washing and repair

  • Leather insole and back heel restoration

All this can be booked through a simple phone call, website visit, or WhatsApp message. Their doorstep pickup and drop service makes shoe care hassle-free and luxurious.

Even today, Shazia remains focused on her core belief: good service, honest pricing, and dignity for all workers. “My dream is to open more Revival branches across Bihar this year,” she shares with quiet optimism.

Bihar’s Silent Revolution Wears Laces, Not Labels

In a world obsessed with unicorns and tech disruptors, Shazia’s Revival reminds us that dignity is also a startup idea.
She didn’t just polish shoes — she polished Bihar’s startup story with authenticity and quiet strength.

When asked why she didn’t pick a ‘better’ business idea, she smiles:
“Because no one else dared to see the gold in dust.”
