A ₹10,000 Cr Dream Project from Munger to Bhagalpur Set to Redefine Ganga Tourism
Munger and Bhagalpur are all set to witness a transformation that could rival the charm of Mumbai’s Marine Drive and even match Patna’s iconic Ganga Path. Under the direct instructions of Chief Minister , the Road Construction Department is preparing a proposal to construct a 100-kilometer, four-lane elevated Marine Drive alongside the Ganga River, connecting Munger to Bhagalpur.
This massive infrastructure dream—estimated at ₹10,000 crore—aims not only to ease regional connectivity but also to boost tourism, spiritual travel, and local livelihoods.
On his recent visit to Sultanpur during the Shravani Mela preparations, Bihar’s Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin spoke to journalists, confirming that the project is fully conceptualized and will soon get cabinet clearance. The approval could arrive as early as July 12-13, right after the inauguration of the Shravani Mela.
The state aims to begin groundwork immediately after the CM’s nod, making this one of the fastest-tracked infrastructure decisions in the region.
Unlike conventional road projects, this stretch will be constructed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), a funding structure where:
The construction agency bears 60% of the cost
The state government contributes 40%
This Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach ensures high-quality execution while reducing the financial burden on the state.
Once completed, it will be Bihar’s second-longest Marine Drive, and a direct spiritual and commercial artery between two prominent Ganga-side cities. The route will also facilitate easy movement for pilgrims, especially during the Kanwar Yatra season.
That’s not all. Minister Nitin Nabin also hinted that an airport in Sultanpur is under consideration. This strategic location would connect Ganga-based tourism with air travel, offering pilgrims and tourists an end-to-end spiritual experience.
He added that road-related works for the Shravani Mela will be completed by July 9, reinforcing the government’s commitment to timely execution.
This isn’t just a road—it’s a revival of eastern Bihar’s cultural, religious, and economic identity. Towns that were once considered peripheral will soon find themselves on the main map of Bihar’s development story. And yes, this initiative carries the blessings of Baba Bhole Nath, as quoted passionately by the minister himself.
