Bihar’s Green Leap: 150 Electric Buses to Hit the Roads Soon!

Imagine hopping onto a silent, zero-emission electric bus on a busy Patna morning. No diesel smoke, no engine roar—just a smooth ride powered by clean energy. That future is almost here. Bihar is preparing to launch 150 brand-new electric buses across major routes in the state, setting the stage for a greener, cleaner transportation revolution.

Electric Buses in Bihar: What’s Coming and Where?

The state government, in collaboration with the central government, has finalized plans to roll out these eco-friendly buses in phases. According to transport department sources, 80 electric buses will soon be operating within Patna city and its key areas—Bailey Road, Danapur, Patna City, Phulwari AIIMS, Bihta, Maner, and Digha.

Meanwhile, 30 more buses will serve Patna’s rural blocks such as Masaurhi, Naubatpur, and Paliganj, offering reliable travel options to thousands.

The remaining 40 buses will be allocated to other major cities like Gaya, Purnia, Bhagalpur, and Muzaffarpur—bringing better public transport to tier-2 cities that have long needed it.

Charging Stations and Infrastructure: Ready to Power Up

To support this transition, dedicated charging stations are being built at full speed. Two major hubs are already being developed in Phulwarisharif Transport Complex and Bairiya Bus Terminal in Patna. These will have the capacity to charge up to 30 buses simultaneously, ensuring that the service remains uninterrupted.

Additionally, charging points in other cities have been identified, and installation will be completed by end of August 2025, in time for the bus rollout.

Daily Operations and Routes: What Commuters Can Expect

Buses will operate daily till 9 PM, covering both intra-city and inter-block routes. Transport officials confirm that each route will have 10 to 15 electric buses, ensuring a consistent and timely commute for citizens.

Moreover, all buses will be GPS-tracked and monitored in real-time via the Transport Corporation’s Control and Command Room. In case of emergencies, passengers will receive immediate assistance—a big leap in commuter safety and accountability.

When Will the Buses Hit the Road?

Mark your calendar. By the end of August 2025, these 150 electric buses will start rolling out one by one. This project marks a turning point in Bihar’s public transportation system, blending innovation with sustainability.
