Bihar to Get 6 Brand-New Airports — A Game-Changer for Connectivity & Growth

Bihar’s wings are spreading wide — literally.
In a landmark decision that could redefine connectivity in the state, the Bihar Cabinet has greenlit the development of six new airports. This decision, taken just months ahead of the state assembly elections, is more than a vote-winning move — it’s a massive push toward regional growth and infrastructure development.

Let’s dive into what this means for everyday Biharis, businesses, and dreamers waiting for takeoff.

Where Are These New Airports Coming Up?

These airports are part of the Central Government’s UDAN scheme (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik), aimed at boosting regional air connectivity. Here’s where the runways are about to roll out:

  • Madhubani

  • Birpur (Supaul)

  • Munger

  • Valmiki Nagar (Bettiah)

  • Muzaffarpur

  • Saharsa

Each of these regions, rich in culture and human potential, has long awaited easier access to national hubs. This move could not only improve travel but also unlock tourism and business opportunities.

Cost and Execution — How Much, Who, and How?

The total budget sanctioned for the project is ₹150 crore.
Each airport will receive ₹25 crore for its development.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been approved between Bihar’s Directorate of Aviation and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). This ensures the right expertise is in place, without delay.

According to Additional Chief Secretary S. Siddharth, the agreement is a timely move in sync with Bihar’s growth narrative.

It Doesn’t Stop There — Patna Gets 5-Star Boost

In a bid to upgrade urban infrastructure too, the Bihar Cabinet has approved the construction of a five-star hotel near Income Tax Golumber in Patna.

The project will be developed by Kumar Infratrade Enterprises Ltd under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with a 90-year land lease. Two more luxury hotels are in the bidding process — one near Bankipore Bus Stand and another near R Golumber.

This signals Bihar’s readiness to welcome global and domestic business travellers, while supporting tourism.

Supporting Farmers and Soldiers — All in One Meeting

This cabinet meeting was not just about planes and hotels. The government also fixed the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for key crops:

  • Chana: ₹5,650

  • Mustard: ₹5,950

  • Masoor: ₹6,700

Also, the contracts of 1,717 retired army personnel serving in Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) were extended till 2025-26.

Education Sector Gets Attention Too

For schools and libraries across the state, the cabinet approved new recruitment guidelines for clerks and librarians. Under the updated rules:

  • 50% of clerk posts in the Education Department will be filled via compassionate appointments

  • The rest will be open for direct recruitment

Why This Airport Decision Matters for You

This isn’t just about travel — it’s about transforming Bihar’s identity.

From job creation to real estate boosts, tourism upliftment to global access — this decision carries impact far beyond its ₹150 crore tag. Bihar is no longer waiting; it’s building its future, one airport at a time.

Expect groundbreaking ceremonies soon. As infrastructure rolls in, so will opportunities. Whether you’re a startup founder in Muzaffarpur, a student from Saharsa, or a tourist eyeing Valmiki Nagar’s wildlife sanctuary — your access is about to become easier than ever.
