Bihar’s Big Leap Towards Clean Energy Starts in Begusarai!

In a move that could redefine Bihar’s position on India’s clean energy map, Ashoka Buildcon—a prominent name in infrastructure and renewable power—has announced a whopping ₹9,000 crore investment to set up a green hydrogen plant in the state.

The announcement came during Bihar Business Connect 2024, where Ashoka Buildcon’s COO-Renewable Energy, Mayank Sharma, confirmed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government. The first phase of this green revolution will unfold in Begusarai, a city now poised to become the epicentre of green hydrogen innovation.

What’s the Plan? A Solar-Powered Clean Energy Marvel

Ashoka Buildcon isn’t new to ambitious infrastructure. But this time, the company is setting its sights on the cleanest energy known to humanity—green hydrogen.

To make this happen, they’ll build a 1,250 MW solar project, which will power the plant using clean, renewable energy. This project aims to produce green hydrogen by splitting water molecules using solar power, ensuring zero carbon emissions.

That’s not just energy innovation—it’s environmental transformation.

Why Green Hydrogen? And Why Bihar?

Green hydrogen is emerging as the fuel of the future. Unlike traditional fuels, burning green hydrogen emits only water vapor, making it a 100% clean source of power.

This move not only supports India’s Net Zero targets but also places Bihar on the national clean energy map. Begusarai, once known for its industrial roots, is now set to shine as a green technology hub.

What makes this more exciting? It’s one of the largest private investments Bihar has seen in recent years.

Timeline and Vision: Fast-Tracking the Future

According to Sharma, the first phase will take around 1.5 to 2 years to complete—once all required clearances are obtained. The second phase will follow soon after, setting the stage for massive employment, skill development, and infrastructure growth in the region.

This is not just a project; it’s a signal of confidence in Bihar’s governance and potential.

A Glimpse into Ashoka Buildcon’s Growing Footprint

Headquartered in Maharashtra, Ashoka Buildcon is already a trusted name in highway construction, power distribution, and solar power projects.

Their current order book, as of March 31, 2024, stands at a solid ₹11,697 crore. Nearly 53% of this is linked to roads and railways. Their achievements also include a 150 MW solar power plant for NTPC in Rajasthan and ongoing work with CIDCO for Navi Mumbai airport connectivity.

Clearly, this green hydrogen venture is not an isolated project—it’s a logical step forward in a much larger clean energy roadmap.
