When Migration Pushes You Out, Dreams Pull You Back In
While many youth spend years chasing jobs in cities, a few brave hearts return to their roots to rewrite their fate. One such inspiring name is Chandan Kumar from Bhojpur, Bihar. He didn’t just beat the odds—he created a brand.
Today, Chandan runs Meera Masala, a growing spice brand that’s not only making waves in Bhojpur and Buxar, but also creating local employment for nearly 18 people. And all of this started after his difficult journey through migration and struggle.
From ITI to Factory Work – Chandan’s Road Wasn’t Easy
Born in Masad village of Udwantnagar Block, Chandan, son of a farmer, completed his ITI from Sir Sivasagar Ram Gulam Hari Institute. Like thousands of others, he left for Rajkot, Gujarat in 2017, seeking a livelihood.
But things didn’t go as planned.
Unable to find meaningful work, he shifted to Gurugram, Haryana. There, he worked on welding machines and later in a jeans factory. Eventually, he managed to secure small contracts in that same factory. Just when things began to look up, COVID-19 hit—and like millions, Chandan had to return home.
A Pandemic Return That Sparked an Entrepreneurial Flame
Returning home wasn’t a step backward. In fact, it was the turning point.
Chandan applied for the Mukhyamantri Udyami Yojana, a Bihar government scheme that offers loans and subsidies to first-time entrepreneurs. Luck favored him—he received ₹10 lakh under the scheme.
But he didn’t stop there.
He named the business after his wife—Meera Masala—and together, they started their spice journey.
Meera Masala: A Family-Powered Dream with a Desi Heart
Operating from Ward No. 1, Saheb Tola, Bihia, Chandan’s spice factory has become a trusted name locally. With the support of his wife and brother, he scaled operations further with help from PMFME (Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme).
He shared, “We prepare all kinds of spices. First, we dry them to remove moisture. Then, we grind, sieve, and finally pack them with care. No chemicals. No additives. Just pure, natural flavors.”
A Business That Smells Like Success
What makes Meera Masala stand out is its purity and quality. People love its authentic, homemade feel. As a result, demand has steadily grown across Bhojpur and Buxar.
Thanks to Chandan’s vision, his hometown now has local jobs, homegrown quality spices, and an inspiring success story.
