Muzaffarpur’s sports infrastructure is back on track. The redevelopment of the Sikandarpur Multi-Purpose Sports Stadium has resumed with renewed focus and an efficient budget of ₹13 crore. After months of delay, construction has finally restarted — and the progress is visible.
Thanks to the Smart City Muzaffarpur initiative, a new contractor has taken charge. With a clear target, the team aims to finish the remaining work within six months.
According to Premdev Sharma, Senior Manager of Smart City Muzaffarpur, the tasks ahead include:
Completion of the squash court
Construction of a multi-use pavilion
Final touches on the swimming pool
This structured plan ensures timely delivery and renewed hope for local athletes.
While the original plan had room for 5,000 spectators, the revised design focuses on safety and smart use of space. The capacity now stands at 2,000 seats.
Rather than building new staircases and stands, the project team decided to renovate the existing structure. This shift brings better alignment with engineering evaluations and ensures resource optimization.
This is Muzaffarpur’s only Smart City project where the budget was scaled down instead of increased. Initially set at ₹19.36 crore, ₹8 crore had already been spent before work stopped. The remaining 43 percent will now be completed under a new ₹4.9 crore contract.
This budget-conscious approach sets an example for other cities aiming for smart development without overspending.
The stadium is evolving into a multi-sport destination. Alongside cricket, facilities for squash and swimming are being developed. This broader focus encourages diverse athletic engagement among youth and helps promote a healthy lifestyle across the community.
With proper execution, this space could become a center for regional sports activities.
Despite delays and challenges, public support never faded. Now, with construction back in motion, the city’s energy is shifting toward optimism and pride.
The project may have taken time, but the renewed efforts are building something that truly belongs to Muzaffarpur.
