Bihar Wheat Prices Surge: Farmers Face Heat Impact, Government Fixes Rate at ₹2,425 per Quintal!

Bihar Wheat Prices in 2025: Rising Heat, Shrinking Yields & Government Procurement Updates

Bihar’s wheat farmers are battling an early summer, and it’s reshaping this season’s yield. With temperatures soaring beyond 30°C, wheat grains are maturing faster than expected, leading to reduced output in several districts. The government has stepped in, setting a procurement price of ₹2,425 per quintal, an increase of ₹150. Here’s everything you need to know!

Unpredictable Weather Hits Bihar’s Wheat Farmers

Farmers across Bihar are reporting smaller, underdeveloped wheat grains, particularly in districts like Begusarai, Arwal, and Jehanabad. The early arrival of hot winds (पछुआ) has accelerated ripening, impacting the final yield. Agriculture experts predict a 15-20% drop in production, with late-sown crops suffering the most.

➡️ In Buxar, yield loss is estimated at 25%. ➡️ In Nawada and Sivan, late wheat varieties have shrunk grains. ➡️ Gaya, however, expects a good harvest despite climatic challenges.

Government’s Quick Response: Higher Prices & Faster Payments

To support farmers, the Bihar government launched wheat procurement on April 1st, targeting 2 lakh metric tons this season. Key highlights:

Increased MSP: ₹2,425 per quintal (+₹150 hike). ✅ Faster Payments: Farmers will receive payments within 48 hours of selling their produce. ✅ Expanded Buying Network: 1.5 lakh tons will be purchased through PACS and trade groups, while 50,000 tons will be procured by FCI.

Where is Procurement Happening?

🚜 Sasaram was the first district to kick off procurement, with two farmers selling 3.55 metric tons on day one. 🚜 Gopalganj has started harvesting across 97,200 hectares. 🚜 Hajipur, Bhojpur & Siwan report only partial impact from weather fluctuations.

Meanwhile, experts urge farmers to adopt heat-resistant wheat varieties to combat rising temperatures.

What’s Next for Bihar’s Wheat Market?

With procurement running until June 15, farmers must sell their produce swiftly. The government’s commitment to quick payments and price hikes aims to ease farmer concerns. However, all eyes remain on Bihar’s weather patterns, which continue to shape agricultural trends.
