Spreading Warmth, One Meal at a Time: The Story of Roti Bank Chhapra

Every night at 9 PM, when the city slows down, a team in Chhapra sets out on a mission—to ensure no one sleeps hungry. What began as a simple act of kindness has now become a beacon of hope for the homeless and hungry.

How One Teacher’s Vision Turned into a Movement

In April 2018, Ravi Shankar Upadhyay, a dedicated government school teacher, saw people going to bed hungry at railway stations and bus stops. The sight disturbed him, but instead of feeling helpless, he chose to act. Encouraged by his friend Abhay Pandey, he decided to make a difference.

On the first night, Ravi and his friends cooked food at home and walked 3 km to distribute just seven meal packets. Nervous yet determined, they feared how people might react. However, as soon as they handed out the food, all doubts vanished—their efforts brought instant gratitude. That moment sparked something bigger.

Roti Bank Chhapra: More Than Just Food

What started as a small initiative quickly grew into a full-fledged movement. Today, Roti Bank Chhapra runs a kitchen in Mohan Nagar, where volunteers cook, package, and distribute 200 meals daily. Every evening, they visit railway stations, bus stands, and hospitals, ensuring no one is left behind.

Community Kindness: How Locals Make a Difference

The impact of Roti Bank Chhapra goes beyond the volunteers. The local community has embraced this mission wholeheartedly. Many residents donate food on special occasions, turning birthdays and anniversaries into opportunities for generosity. Their support proves that when kindness spreads, it multiplies.
