Finally, a Victory for Tankuppa Residents! Railway Ministry Approves Rs 6.78 Crore Underpass Project

A Long-Awaited Breakthrough for Tankuppa

After years of relentless campaigning and protests, the people of Tankuppa in Bihar’s Gaya district have achieved a major victory. The Railway Ministry has sanctioned Rs 6.78 crore for the construction of an underpass near Jianbigha, adjacent to Tankuppa Station. This long-overdue project will finally ease traffic congestion and improve safety for commuters.

The Role of Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi

This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the persistent efforts of Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi. The residents had been demanding either an overbridge or an underpass for years. However, their requests were repeatedly overlooked. Frustrated by the inaction, they even boycotted voting in past elections as a form of protest.

Manjhi had promised during the Lok Sabha elections that he would address this pressing issue if elected. Staying true to his word, he took the matter to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, leading to the long-awaited approval of the underpass project.

Residents’ Struggles and Protests Pay Off

The Gaya Dhanbad Grand Cord Railway Sangharsh Samiti, led by President E Nandlal Manjhi, played a crucial role in this movement. Over the years, the community submitted multiple petitions to authorities, yet their appeals were ignored. The struggle intensified when residents staged protests and escalated their demands through various platforms.

Finally, in a meeting last month, a delegation from the Sangharsh Samiti met Jitan Ram Manjhi and formally presented a memorandum. Recognizing the urgency, he took immediate action, pushing for the project’s approval.

What’s Next for Tankuppa?

With the funding secured and approvals in place, the focus now shifts to execution. The underpass will significantly improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and enhance safety for pedestrians and motorists. The exact timeline for construction is yet to be announced, but locals are hopeful that work will begin soon.

Members of the Sangharsh Samiti, including Vinod Singh, Vijay Yadav, Jhalak Singh, Rajkumar Sao, Mohd. Rizwan, Dilip Singh, Kapil Yadav, Munna Pandey, Dilip Yadav, Umesh Das, and Sudhir Sao, have expressed their gratitude to Jitan Ram Manjhi for fulfilling his commitment.
