Viral Story: Bihar Girl Denied Science, Forced Into Arts—Govt Steps In!
Dreams Crushed Over One Mark, Bihar Girl’s Plea Gets National Attention
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Khushbu Kumari from Danapur, Bihar, saw her dream of becoming a doctor slip away due to societal norms and financial constraints. But what happened next turned her story into a national conversation.
“One Mark Took Away My Dream”: The Pain of Gender Bias
Khushbu, an aspiring science student, was forced into the arts stream after failing to meet a strict condition set by her parents. “If you score over 400 marks, you can take science,” they said. She scored 399. Just one mark short.
“In my house, boys have complete freedom to study, but girls don’t. We don’t even get a phone for studying,” she shared in a viral video, breaking down in tears.
Her father, Upendra Rai, defended the decision, citing financial limitations. “Science education is expensive. We couldn’t afford it,” he admitted.
Viral Video Sparks Action: Help Arrives
As the video gained traction, a powerful response followed. The Union government stepped in, assuring Khushbu of full support for her enrollment in a good college.
During a video call arranged by Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh, she was encouraged to stay focused. “Do not worry, my child. Help is on the way. Study well and don’t hold anything against your parents.”
The administration has now stepped in to secure Khushbu’s admission into Class 11 with a Biology major for the 2025-27 session.
Education Over Barriers: A Step Towards Change
Khushbu’s story is a stark reminder of the gender bias and financial struggles many girls in India still face. However, her resilience and the power of social media have ignited a movement.
