Patna Airport’s New Cargo Terminal: A Game Changer for Bihar’s Trade & Economy

Revolutionizing Cargo Services at Patna Airport

Patna Airport just got a major upgrade! The newly inaugurated 22,000 metric ton capacity air cargo terminal is set to transform the way goods, especially perishable items like mangoes and litchis, are transported from Bihar to other cities. This development is a huge leap from the previous 7,500 metric ton capacity and brings advanced infrastructure, including a cold storage facility, ensuring better logistics and efficiency.

Cold Storage for Perishables: A Boon for Farmers

One of the biggest highlights of the new air cargo terminal is the cold storage facility, which was missing earlier. Bihar is known for its premium-quality mangoes and litchis, and now, with proper storage and faster air transport, these fruits can reach markets across India and abroad without losing freshness. Farmers and traders will benefit immensely, opening doors to higher profits and better market reach.

State-of-the-Art Security & Handling Facilities

Spread across 3,392 square meters, the cargo terminal is ten times larger than the previous 332-square-meter facility. It boasts modern amenities such as:

  • X-ray and screening machines for efficient cargo checks
  • CCTV surveillance and fire safety systems for enhanced security
  • Truck loading and unloading bays for seamless operations
  • Strong rooms for valuable shipments

Inauguration & Key Personalities Involved

The grand inauguration was led by Patna Airport Executive Director Uma Shankar, along with Cargo General Manager K. Selva Kumar and Regional Director of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, Rajeev Kumar. Speaking at the event, Selva Kumar emphasized how this facility will boost Bihar’s trade economy, allowing fresh produce, flowers, and essential commodities to reach distant locations with ease.

Boosting Bihar’s Economy & Logistics

This facility is a game-changer for Bihar’s exporters and traders. With all airlines now having access to a single, well-equipped cargo facility, the transportation process has become more streamlined. The availability of dedicated spaces for airline offices, parking, meeting rooms, and passenger waiting areas further enhances the efficiency of operations.

The new cargo terminal is set to increase the frequency of shipments from Bihar, making Patna a key logistics hub in eastern India. With world-class infrastructure and faster cargo movement, businesses can now expand their reach like never before.
