The Bihar government has approved major airport expansions. Darbhanga airport will receive ₹244.60 crore, and Raxaul airport will get ₹207 crore. These steps will enhance air connectivity and stimulate economic growth.

Darbhanga Airport Expansion: ₹244.60 Crore Investment for International Status

The Bihar Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, approved the acquisition of 89.75 acres for Darbhanga airport. This expansion will transform it into an international hub. The government aims to improve connectivity for the Mithila region and nearby areas. The project includes building a new terminal, cargo complex, multi-level car parking, and more. Additionally, 76.85 acres were transferred to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) in 2024.

Raxaul Airport: ₹207 Crore Investment to Boost Economic Growth

In another move, the Bihar Cabinet approved the acquisition of 139 acres for Raxaul airport. This expansion will cost ₹207 crore. The Airport Authority of India will develop the project. As a result, Raxaul will see improved air connectivity, boosting economic activities, especially in the border region.

Enhancing Safety and Traffic Management

The Cabinet also approved the installation of CCTV cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems at 72 important crossings. This initiative will cover 26 districts and reduce traffic violations. The state will improve safety and traffic flow across Bihar with this project.

Continued Infrastructure Development

The Bihar government also approved land acquisitions for industrial parks. Over 1,700 acres will be used in Vaishali and Sitamarhi. These parks will drive industrial growth. Moreover, the government approved ₹2,960.48 crore for new infrastructural projects announced by CM Nitish Kumar during his “Pragati Yatra.”
