Bihar’s Biggest Leap in Healthcare: PM Modi virtually Inaugurates Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital in Muzaffarpur

When hope meets healthcare, change begins. Bihar witnessed a historic moment as Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Muzaffarpur. Built at a cost of ₹570 crore, this state-of-the-art hospital promises to transform cancer treatment in North Bihar.

A New Era of Cancer Care in Bihar

For decades, patients from Bihar had to travel to metros like Delhi, Mumbai, or Kolkata for advanced cancer treatment. This journey often drained their finances and tested their strength. But now, with this modern facility inside SKMCH campus, treatment comes closer to home.

The hospital includes a 100-bed Palliative Care Unit, OPD services, radiology, chemotherapy, and surgery — all under one roof. Patients will no longer need to shuffle between different centers for scans, diagnosis, and treatment.

Advanced Facilities and Services

Dr. Ravikant Singh, the hospital in-charge, confirmed that this is North Bihar’s largest cancer hospital, equipped with cutting-edge technology. Key highlights include:

  • 150 beds with OPD and IPD care.

  • 500–600 patients visiting daily for cancer consultation.

  • Specialized care for cervical cancer with advanced Nacikthera therapy.

  • Ayushman Bharat coverage, ensuring affordable treatment.

  • Research & Outreach teams visiting PHCs to identify suspected cancer cases.

  • Palliative care services, even reaching patients at their homes.

Since 2019, nearly 21,000 patients have received treatment here. The hospital has already conducted more than 9,000 surgeries and 42,000 chemotherapy sessions, benefiting patients from 11 Indian states and neighboring countries like Nepal and Bhutan.

From Small Room to Mega Hospital

The journey of this institution is nothing short of inspiring. On 27 December 2019, Dr. Ravikant Singh started with a small OPD inside SKMCH. Gradually, operation theaters and wards were added. With government support and 45 acres of land, this dream project became reality.

Former SKMCH principal Dr. Vikas Kumar and superintendent Dr. B.S. Jha played key roles in the establishment. Their vision now saves thousands of lives every year.

Impact Beyond Healthcare – Jobs and Training

The hospital is not just a medical facility; it is also creating opportunities. With units for oncology training, cancer research, and diagnostics, it will generate jobs for doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers. Soon, large-scale recruitment will begin to meet rising demand.

For Bihar, this is more than infrastructure. It is hope, dignity, and access to world-class healthcare without leaving home.
