अब किसान नहीं खरीदेंगे थकान, मशीन चलाएगा गन्ने का मैदान!”

Bihar Launches Sugarcane Mechanization Scheme Portal: Modern Tools, Maximum Yields

Tech Meets Tradition: A New Era for Sugarcane Farmers in Bihar

Bihar’s sugarcane farmers just received a much-needed boost. The state government has launched a dedicated online portal under the Sugarcane Mechanization Scheme, allowing farmers to apply for subsidies on 33 modern agricultural tools.

This forward-looking move by the Department of Sugarcane Industries promises to ease labor, improve productivity, and cut costs in sugarcane farming. Importantly, it puts Bihar’s sugarcane sector on a tech-driven track.

Under the ₹10 crore initiative, farmers can apply for up to three tools each. The selection process will take place via an online lottery system, ensuring transparency. Once selected, farmers must purchase tools only through the portal, directly from approved vendors.

How the Scheme Will Empower Farmers

The scheme has a clear aim—to introduce modern equipment at subsidized rates to help farmers reduce dependency on manual labor. As farming becomes more competitive, access to reliable tools can make a huge difference in output and income.

The portal is open to registered farmers with a valid 13-digit DBT ID. Applications can be submitted at https://ccs.bihar.gov.in or https://sugarcanemech.bihar.gov.in.

Farmers selected through the lottery system will receive a letter of approval. They must purchase the listed tools within 14 days, directly from vendors listed on the portal.

What Kind of Equipment Is Covered?

The scheme covers tools that span the entire crop cycle—from land preparation to harvesting. This includes:

  • Power tillers

  • Seeders and planters

  • Fertilizer applicators

  • Sprayers

  • Mechanical harvesters

In addition to individual benefits, the scheme also includes provisions for group-based machinery banks. This will ensure shared access to expensive tools, especially for marginal farmers.

Scientific Farming, Real Returns

This scheme isn’t just about machines—it’s about mindset change. With this, Bihar’s sugarcane sector is moving toward precision agriculture, where every step—from sowing to spraying—is based on efficiency.

As pest control becomes more targeted and planting more accurate, the expected outcome is higher yields with fewer losses. For farmers, this means better margins, more time saved, and less physical exhaustion.

The government hopes that through mechanization, not only will costs drop, but farmers will also be motivated to adopt sustainable and scientific methods of farming.

Who’s Behind the Launch?

The scheme was launched by the state’s Sugarcane Industry Department. Present at the event were senior officials including:

  • B. Karthikeyan Dhanji (Secretary)

  • Anil Kumar Jha (Sugarcane Commissioner)

  • Mahendra Pratap Singh (Joint Director)

  • Jay Prakash Narayan Singh (Joint Commissioner)

  • Sanjay Kumar (Senior Technical Director, NIC)

Their coordinated effort reflects the intent to digitize and modernize the farm sector at the grassroots level.
