Bihta to Russia: Bihar’s Bold Leap into Global Trade | India’s Export Story Rewritten from a Small Town

From Bihta to the Battlefield: Bihar’s Safety Shoes March into Russia

What connects a silent logistics hub near Patna to the icy terrains of Russia? On Monday, Bihta Dry Port witnessed a landmark event—the first container was flagged off for Russia, loaded with custom-made safety shoes for Russian soldiers. This historic moment signals more than just an export—it marks Bihar’s entry into global logistics with confidence and capability.

Made in Hajipur, Designed for Russia

The container, dispatched by Competence Export Pvt. Ltd., is a proud example of “Make in Bihar.” Manufactured in Hajipur’s industrial zone, these specialised safety shoes are designed to handle the extreme demands of the Russian army.

“Russian soldiers need boots that are light, firm-gripped, and resilient against -40°C weather,”
said Shivnath Rai, Manager at Competence Export.
“Our design meets every one of those standards.”

Earlier, such exports had to route through Kanpur. Now, with the operational push at Pristine Bihta Dry Port, Bihar is becoming the starting point for international supply chains.

Bihta Dry Port: From Regional Link to Global Gateway

The flagged-off shipment marks Bihta Dry Port’s entry into international logistics. Managed by Pristine Logistics, this hub now offers businesses across Bihar a smoother, cost-efficient pathway to export via Mumbai Port to global destinations.

The event saw the presence of key officials:

  • Rakesh Kumar (Regional Manager, Dry Port)
  • Pradeep Kumar (Customs Superintendent)
  • Naveen Kumar (Customs Inspector)

Their involvement ensured all clearances were seamless, highlighting how Bihar’s infrastructure is now export-ready.

Will Indian Soldiers Wear These Boots Next?

When asked if Indian soldiers might soon use these high-performance boots, Shivnath Rai replied,

“Not yet. We’re awaiting formal approval. Once we get the order, we’re fully prepared to produce boots for the Indian Army too.”

This isn’t just business anymore—it’s a matter of national service, starting from a small unit in Hajipur.

Bihar’s Emerging Export Power: What This Means

This milestone demonstrates a massive shift in Bihar’s economic narrative. From traditional industries to high-value defence gear exports, the state is now better positioned for global trade. Thanks to Bihta Dry Port, MSMEs and manufacturers in Bihar can export directly, reducing dependency on ports in other states.

With improved infrastructure, faster logistics, and global demand—Bihar is no longer waiting for change. It is leading it.
