Bihar is not just a state—it is the land of ancient wisdom, powerful rulers, and a vibrant cultural legacy. However, the younger generation often remains unaware of this rich past. According to Prof. Dr. Raman Sinha, former principal of S.M. College, Bhagalpur, the key to Bihar’s progress lies in reconnecting with its history. Speaking at the Bihar Foundation Day event at Murarka College, he stressed that only by understanding Bihar’s past can the youth shape a brighter future.
Throughout history, Bihar has played a pivotal role in shaping India’s cultural and political landscape. Shiv Shankar Singh Parijat, former Deputy Director of Public Relations, highlighted this point by referencing historical contributions. For instance, renowned author Rahul Sankrityayan documented Bihar’s history in his famous Ganga Patrika, which remains a valuable reference today.
Additionally, he pointed out that Dr. Abhaykant Chaudhary’s book, Sultanganj Ki Sanskriti, serves as a mirror to Bihar’s rich past. Moreover, the globally acclaimed Buddha statue from Sultanganj stands as a testament to Bihar’s historical and religious significance. Clearly, without knowledge of these cultural landmarks, Bihar’s younger generation may miss out on their own heritage.
Notably, Prof. Rakesh Kumar shed light on Bihar’s folk culture and traditions during the event. In addition to discussions on history, a cultural program was organized to celebrate Bihar’s artistic heritage.
Furthermore, students from NCC and NSS units actively participated in folk performances. For example, the audience was mesmerized by the Apan Bihar and Jhinjhia folk dances, which highlighted Bihar’s vibrant cultural roots.
Unquestionably, history is more than just a subject—it is a roadmap for progress. The Bihar Foundation Day celebrations emphasized that understanding the past is essential for building a better tomorrow. In fact, by learning about historical struggles and cultural evolution, today’s youth can create a stronger Bihar.
