The state government has generously allocated 182 acres of land for the AIIMS-Darbhanga project, which aims to bring advanced medical care to the northeastern part of Bihar. Once operational, this institute will cater not only to the local population but also to those from neighboring states and even countries like Nepal.
The dream of transforming Bihar’s healthcare isn’t new. It was the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who, in 2003, envisioned an AIIMS in Patna. Today, that vision has blossomed into a thriving institution that is making a real difference in people’s lives. AIIMS-Darbhanga is set to carry forward this legacy, ensuring quality healthcare is accessible to all.
Bihar’s commitment to healthcare doesn’t stop with AIIMS-Darbhanga. The Centre has approved 75 new medical colleges across India, with five super-specialty centers planned for Bihar alone. This is in addition to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna, which has been a lifeline for patients from Bihar, Bengal, Odisha, and Nepal.
