Every dawn in Patna now begins with action. Streets echo with the hum of fogging machines, and residents watch as civic workers spray every corner. The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC), under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena, has launched a war-level anti-dengue drive, reaching 18,000 homes daily.
Unlike previous seasonal clean-ups, this mission is intense, structured, and city-wide. Teams are not only eliminating larvae but also spreading awareness door-to-door. The aim is clear — stop dengue before it starts.
To ensure complete coverage, five anti-larva teams have been deployed in every ward. In high-risk dengue areas, ten special units now work round the clock. The teams check rooftops, pots, overhead tanks, and under-construction sites — all potential breeding spots.
Across 75 municipal wards, 375 teams operate in two shifts daily. They use Temephos for larva control and Malathion for fogging. Meanwhile, a special 500-metre perimeter is sprayed around every dengue-positive home identified by the health department.
This coordinated rhythm of inspection, fogging, and verification ensures that no neighbourhood is left behind.
Hospitals, often overlooked breeding grounds, are receiving special focus. Dedicated workers visit PMCH, NMCH, AIIMS, IGIMS, IGIC, Gardiner Hospital, and Rajvanshi Nagar Hospital daily for spraying and fogging.
This hospital-level vigilance reduces infection risk for patients and frontline workers. Moreover, it prevents re-infestation from within high-traffic healthcare zones — a crucial step that strengthens Patna’s overall defence.
The civic body has also mobilised 57 fogging vehicles across six major zones:
Pataliputra Zone – 13 vehicles
Nutan Rajdhani Zone – 12 vehicles
Azimabad Zone – 7 vehicles
Patna City Zone – 6 vehicles
Kankarbagh Zone – 10 vehicles
Bankipur Zone – 9 vehicles
Every evening, these vehicles move through colonies, markets, and schools, ensuring consistent coverage. Furthermore, each team maintains a logbook for citizen feedback. Random verification calls confirm that ground operations match official reports.
If residents face issues, they can call toll-free number 155304, and a rapid-response unit reaches the location the same day. This real-time grievance redressal has made citizens active partners in the drive.
While PMC’s machinery is vast, the true strength lies in citizen cooperation. Commissioner Yashpal Meena repeatedly urges residents to keep their surroundings clean and water-free. Stagnant water, even in a bottle cap, can become a breeding ground within days.
Therefore, small daily habits — covering tanks, cleaning trays, and removing puddles — directly reduce dengue risk. Additionally, responding to fogging teams and sharing feedback builds trust and helps improve the process.
