“Every Second Counts”: AIIMS Patna Leads Bihar’s Fight Against Stroke with ‘Stroke Update 2025’
When every second decides between life and paralysis, AIIMS Patna is rewriting Bihar’s healthcare story.
With its bold step, “Stroke Update 2025,” the institute has launched a movement to bring speed, science, and hope to stroke patients across the state.
AIIMS Patna’s Landmark Initiative: Stroke Update 2025
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna has introduced a transformative program to change stroke care in Bihar.
Titled “Stroke Update 2025,” the initiative focuses on rapid diagnosis, timely treatment, and collaboration between experts—three elements that can save lives when time is short.
Jointly organized by the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery, the event was inaugurated by Prof. (Brig.) Dr. Raju Agarwal, Director of AIIMS Patna.
During the event, he announced the creation of a dedicated Acute Stroke Care Unit—a specialized facility designed to deliver immediate, evidence-based care.
“Timely intervention is the key to preserving life and neurological function,” said Prof. Agarwal, urging hospitals to act faster than ever before.
Acute Stroke Care Unit: Where Time Meets Technology
The upcoming Acute Stroke Care Unit will handle thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy, two procedures that can reverse brain damage if done quickly.
This development ensures that patients in Bihar receive world-class treatment without delays.
Prof. Vikas Chandra Jha, Head of Neurosurgery, shared crucial insights.
Nearly 80% of strokes in India are ischemic and can be treated if addressed in time.
He also pointed to the alarming rise in strokes among younger adults, calling for stronger emergency systems and awareness campaigns.
Uniting Experts for Faster Response and Better Recovery
The event brought together more than 200 experts, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, and general physicians from AIIMS, PMCH, IGIMS, and regional hospitals.
Through discussions on emergency triage, rehabilitation, and neurointervention, the program inspired collaboration across Bihar’s healthcare network.
Additionally, the speakers emphasized ambulance-based rapid response models and the need to expand stroke-ready hospitals throughout the state.
The initiative also aligns with the National Health Programme’s mission to strengthen critical care in every district.
Beyond Treatment: Building a Future of Compassion and Innovation
For AIIMS Patna, this is not just a hospital project—it’s a promise of progress.
The institute aims to create a statewide stroke network, connecting rural and urban Bihar under one efficient care system.
“Stroke Update 2025 is a milestone in neurological care. It reflects AIIMS Patna’s commitment to innovation, compassion, and clinical excellence,” said Prof. Jha, expressing hope for a healthier and more aware Bihar.
