Patna Joins India’s Metro Cities
Patna officially enters the league of India’s metro cities today! The first phase of the long-awaited Patna Metro rail service has launched. The Blue Line now runs between the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) and Bhoothnath, connecting three key stations: Patliputra ISBT, Zero Mile, and Bhoothnath.
The inaugural run started from Patliputra Bus Depot. Metro rides for passengers begin from tomorrow, marking a historic day for Bihar.
Routes, Fares, and Timings
The initial 4.3-kilometre stretch allows travel between ISBT Station, Zero Mile, and Bhoothnath Station. Single-station fares start at Rs 15, while traveling the full route costs Rs 30. Services operate daily from 8 am to 10 pm, with 40 to 42 trips scheduled along the corridor.
Each train can carry up to 900 passengers, with coaches designed for 300 passengers each. Trains will initially run every 20 minutes, ensuring smooth travel even during peak hours.
A Cultural Touch: Madhubani-Inspired Coaches
Patna Metro celebrates Bihar’s rich cultural heritage. Coaches feature Madhubani-inspired designs, blending tradition with modernity. Vibrant patterns reflect Bihar’s identity, making each ride visually striking and unique.
The Journey So Far
The project was first planned over a decade ago. With careful design, detailed project planning, and construction by L&T, Patna Metro is ready to transform urban travel.
The project received support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), ensuring world-class standards and efficiency.
With this launch, Patna becomes the 24th operational metro city in India, promising faster, smoother, and culturally enriched travel for daily commuters and visitors alike.
