Bihar woke up to a new dawn of connectivity this week. With the flagging off of seven new trains, including three Amrit Bharat Express and four passenger trains, the state’s rail map has received a transformative boost. This moment marks a leap forward in Bihar’s journey toward development and inclusivity, linking people, places, and possibilities like never before.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary flagged off the trains that will redefine travel for millions. Out of the 30 Amrit Bharat Express services in India, an impressive 26 originate from Bihar, making the state a hub of modern railway growth.
These new routes include:
Darbhanga – Ajmer (Madar) Amrit Bharat Express
Muzaffarpur – Hyderabad (Charlapalli) Amrit Bharat Express
Chhapra – Delhi (Anand Vihar) Amrit Bharat Express
For the first time, Muzaffarpur gets direct high-speed access to South India. Chhapra strengthens its ties with the national capital. Darbhanga gains seamless connectivity to Rajasthan. Each train promises speed, safety, and affordability, while also stimulating trade, tourism, and employment.
While the Amrit Bharat trains connect Bihar to other states, the four passenger trains ensure that small towns and rural areas remain well connected:
Patna – Buxar Passenger
Jhajha – Danapur Passenger
Nawada – Patna Passenger
Patna – Islampur Passenger
These routes bring ease of travel for students, workers, and families. They reflect the government’s focus on the common man’s needs, ensuring accessibility across districts.
The scale of railway development in Bihar since 2014 has been extraordinary. Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that the state’s annual railway budget, which stood at just ₹1,000 crore before 2014, has now surged to ₹10,000 crore in 2025. At present, projects worth nearly ₹1 lakh crore are underway.
Key achievements include:
Completion of Patna & Munger rail-cum-road bridges
Operationalization of the Kosi Bridge
Electrification of the entire railway network
Addition of 1,899 km of new track
With 21 major projects fully commissioned and dozens more in progress, Bihar’s railway landscape is unrecognizable compared to a decade ago.
The Amrit Bharat Express is more than just another train. It represents India’s indigenous modernization in railway travel. Non-AC coaches now come with sealed gangways, fire detection systems, semi-automatic couplers, and talk-back units for safety. This makes long journeys both affordable and secure.
For passengers, these upgrades mean faster journeys with greater comfort. For Bihar, it means stronger links with the rest of India and a chance to unlock its economic and cultural potential.
Projects completed since 2014 include:
Patna Rail-cum-Road Bridge
Munger Rail-cum-Road Bridge
Kosi Bridge
Gauge conversions at Jaynagar–Narkatiaganj, Mansi–Saharsa–Purnia, and more
New lines like Daniawan–Biharsharif, Chandan–Banka, and Rajgir–Tilaiya
Upcoming projects include new lines like Sakri–Hasanpur, Khagaria–Kusheshwarsthan, Sitamarhi–Sheohar, and 3rd/4th line works at Samastipur–Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur–Sagauli, Chhapra–Ballia, and more.
Together, these projects ensure that every district in Bihar stays connected to the growth story.
Bihar is steadily moving towards the vision of “Developed India through a Developed Bihar.” The launch of these trains is not just about steel tracks and wheels. It is about hope, mobility, and opportunity for millions. Every new route bridges distances, empowers people, and accelerates Bihar’s march toward becoming a golden state.
