When Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for IIT-Patna’s Rs 644 crore expansion project, it wasn’t just about bricks and mortar. It was about dreams, opportunities, and positioning Bihar as a global knowledge hub. The event, held via videoconference from Jharsuguda, Odisha, brought national attention to Patna’s growing role in India’s education and innovation journey.
This third phase of IIT-Patna’s development covers 1,26,000 square metres of modern infrastructure. Funded through the Higher Education Financing Agency, the project promises:
A state-of-the-art research park and advanced central research facilities.
Innovative academic buildings designed to nurture entrepreneurship.
Hostels for 2,000 male and 500 female students.
An international hostel with 250 seats.
Studio apartments for married scholars.
Modern residential quarters for faculty and staff.
Each facility has been planned to match global standards, giving Bihar’s youth the resources they deserve.
Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Giriraj Singh, alongside leaders like Ravi Shankar Prasad, Nitin Nabin, and Sunil Kumar, graced the local event at Urja Stadium in Patna. Their presence underscored the importance of this milestone for Bihar.
IIT-Patna director Prof. T N Singh expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister. He called the project a turning point that would elevate the institute’s capacity for research, entrepreneurship, and global collaboration. “This project strengthens IIT-Patna’s journey towards becoming a global hub of innovation,” he affirmed.
Bihar has long carried the image of resilience. Now, with projects like IIT-Patna’s expansion, the state is emerging as a symbol of aspiration. Modern hostels, international-standard labs, and facilities for both students and faculty will transform Patna into an educational magnet.
Furthermore, this expansion fuels India’s larger ambition to lead in knowledge-based economies. It reflects a vision where states like Bihar stand shoulder-to-shoulder with global education giants.
