A 3-rupee plant can now change a farmer’s life.
That’s not just a line—it’s a real shift taking place in Bhabhua, Bihar. The Horticulture Department has launched a powerful new initiative under the Vegetable Development Scheme (सब्जी विकास योजना). With a massive 75% subsidy on hybrid vegetable seeds and plants, farmers can now grow more, spend less, and earn better—all within this crop cycle.
For the financial year 2025–26, Bihar’s horticulture department is focusing on Rabi and summer vegetable cultivation. The goal is to improve agricultural productivity and increase farmer income by lowering seed input costs and encouraging high-yield hybrid crops.
Key highlights of the scheme:
Subsidy: 75% on hybrid seeds and saplings
Per-plant subsidy: ₹2.25 on a unit cost of ₹3
Minimum land area eligible: 25 dismil (approx. 0.25 acre)
Maximum land area covered: 1 hectare per farmer
Mode of application: Online (link below)
According to Dr. Abhay Kumar Gaurav, District Horticulture Officer, the scheme aims to distribute the following hybrid saplings:
12,000 Broccoli plants
12,000 Shimla Mirch (Capsicum) plants
8,000 Tomato plants
12,000 Cauliflower plants
12,000 Cabbage plants
In addition to this, cultivation across 20 hectares has been planned for green peas, carrots, and brinjals. Meanwhile, crops like pumpkin, ridge gourd, and bitter gourd will be grown on 35 hectares.
Each eligible farmer will receive between 1,000 to 10,000 hybrid saplings, depending on land size and crop selection.
To avail the scheme benefits, farmers must submit their application online through the official portal of Bihar’s Horticulture Department.

This scheme is first-come, first-served—so act quickly.
Historically, small and marginal farmers in Bihar have faced steep costs when purchasing quality seeds. This scheme not only eases the financial burden but also brings technology-driven farming inputs like hybrid seeds into the mainstream.
By expanding the area under cultivation and focusing on income-oriented crops, the program aims to lift thousands of families out of poverty through structured support.
It’s more than a subsidy—it’s a strategy for economic self-reliance.
Don’t miss this opportunity to grow smarter and earn more.
