Kapda nahi, zindagi badal raha hai Khadi!
Khadi is no longer just about spinning wheels and simplicity. In Bihar, it’s turning into a powerful movement — a tool of empowerment, identity, and income for rural women. With every stitch and every thread, women across the state are stepping into roles of dignity, self-reliance, and leadership.
Supported by the Bihar Government, Khadi training centres are now active in multiple districts. These are not ordinary workshops — they are transformation hubs where women learn stitching, embroidery, knitting, soap-making, incense stick production, and detergent creation.
Unlike traditional training that only scratches the surface, these programs go deeper. Women learn design thinking, fabric selection, and also how to package and market their products effectively. This isn’t just about skill; it’s about sustainability.
In 2024–25 alone, 59 training programmes were conducted. Over 950 women and 550 men joined these initiatives, with many women now earning through Khadi centres or launching their own businesses.
From small villages to block-level towns, women are rewriting their stories. Earlier limited by financial dependence or social norms, these women are now earning, saving, and inspiring. What’s more? They’re becoming symbols of change in their communities.
Their stories aren’t just personal wins — they reflect a larger shift in rural Bihar’s gender dynamics.
“Khadi is not just cloth anymore. It is culture, creativity, and confidence,” said Industry Minister Nitish Mishra.
He also announced the launch of Khadi malls in all divisions and a digital push to sell local products online. His tagline — “Khadi for Fashion, Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Transformation” — is quickly gaining traction.
Gone are the days when Khadi was only associated with dull fabrics. Now, it’s turning fashionable. Designers are blending Khadi with trendy cuts and modern silhouettes, making it appealing for the younger generation.
This pivot toward fashion is also opening new career paths for trained women — from tailors and artisans to micro-entrepreneurs and local fashion influencers.
And it’s not just about income. With every saree stitched and every soap sold, women are gaining confidence, purpose, and recognition.
This isn’t a one-off story. It’s a grassroots revolution backed by policy, purpose, and people. With more centres being planned and digital tools being introduced, Khadi is on track to become a pillar of rural economic development.
These women are not waiting for opportunities — they are creating them.
