Ayodhya-Style Temple Coming Up at Punaura Dham: Sitamarhi Prepares for a Spiritual & Cultural Renaissance”
‘Punaura Dham Is Calling’: Bihar’s Cultural Pride Gets a Majestic Makeover
“Yeh sirf mandir nahi, Bihar ke gaurav ki nayi pehchaan hai.”
In a landmark step, Bihar has initiated a spiritual and cultural revival by announcing a grand Janaki Mandir at Punaura Dham, the birthplace of Goddess Sita. Located just 5 km from Sitamarhi town, this sacred site is set to receive a transformative makeover, inspired by the majestic Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
To fast-track this development, the state government has formed a dedicated nine-member trust, marking a bold stride in preserving Bihar’s heritage.
Trust Formed to Lead Construction and Redevelopment
As per the Law Department’s gazette notification, the newly constituted body, named Shree Janaki Janam Bhumi Punaura Dham Mandir Nyas Samiti, came into immediate effect. This trust is not just symbolic—it has clear responsibilities and leadership.
-
The Chief Secretary leads the trust as its Chairman.
-
Development Commissioner takes charge as Vice-Chairman.
-
Sitamarhi’s District Magistrate and Deputy Development Commissioner will serve as Secretary and Treasurer.
Additionally, the Mahanth of Punaura Dham Mutth, secretaries of Tourism, Road Construction, and Urban Development and Housing departments, along with the Divisional Commissioner of Tirhut, are key members. Together, they bring administrative strength and spiritual insight.
Importantly, the trust’s bank account will be jointly managed by the Secretary and Treasurer to ensure transparency.
CM Shares Blueprint of the Temple
On June 22, Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar publicly unveiled the final design of the new temple complex. Sharing it on social media, he wrote:
“It gives me immense pleasure to announce that the design for the comprehensive development of Punaura Dham, Sitamarhi, that includes construction of a grand temple and other structures, is now complete.”
This announcement wasn’t just ceremonial. It followed the cabinet’s approval to appoint a private design consultant and a sanctioned budget of ₹120 crore—highlighting the scale and commitment to the project.
Here’s What the Punaura Dham Makeover Will Include
Bihar isn’t just constructing a temple—it’s building an entire spiritual experience. Under the redevelopment plan, visitors can expect:
-
Sita Vatika and Luv-Kush Vatika, dedicated to the divine family
-
A sacred Parikrama Path for pilgrims
-
Interactive kiosks showcasing the life and legacy of Goddess Sita
-
A cafeteria, children’s play zones, and improved public amenities
Clearly, the transformation aims to serve not only spiritual seekers but also families, tourists, and culture enthusiasts.
Why Punaura Dham Matters: A Blend of History, Faith & Tourism
Every year, thousands of devotees flock to Punaura Dham, yet its infrastructure didn’t match its significance. This revamp bridges that gap, offering both religious reverence and tourism potential. Unlike other temple projects, this initiative is being driven with administrative clarity, cultural sensitivity, and non-political focus.
Such developments also contribute to Bihar’s image makeover, showcasing a state that celebrates its ancient roots while embracing modern planning.
